I am sure this has been argued about and discussed some where else, but i am going to ask here. I am going to play in Ard boys this year. My question is very simple. Do my DP doors HAVE to open, or may they be closed. I model them closed due to simplicity of traveling and such. And keep in mind, i am not asking about the LOS rule through them or any of that. Just need to know if they have to be open or closed for a tourny's sake. Normally you folks are spot on about rules and i 99% of the time play basement games i need to get on the right path. Thanks for any help you folks can give.

Since it is 'Ard Boys, the only way to be sure is to ask them, not us. A Tournament Organiser can do whatever he wants. He can make you have to open them. He can demand they remain closed. He can ban Pink models if he really wants. His Tournament, his rules. What we say here has no weight whatsoever.

That said, a good practice is probably to bring a coffee can lid or something like that to set down first, then the drop pod itself. This way you can check LoS by simply picking up the drop pod and putting it back down on top of the lid itself.

Just to be on the safe side, I would model them so they can be opened, y'know? TLOS creates a lot of bickering while vehicles are concerned so to be safe, have them ready for that eventual arguement. Might be hard to transport with swinging doors like that but its easier than an arguement. Just tuck them in nice and snug... they're drop pods, they always land perfectly, right?

There is no over all rule. It really is down to the whim of the TO.
That being said, many Tournaments use the INAT FAQ (thread is a sticky here in YMDC), though Ard boyz is a notable exception IIRC.

Gwar ty much for all your quick answers man. And even if i glue them close or what not, im a pretty laid back player. if the over all is there is LOS through them them i will give the player that los since i am the one that glued them -shrugs- Easier for me to give the complainers what they want instead of hearing the crying ( have my own kids for that) lol

Maybe use magnets to make sure they stay closed untill they go on the table?

The 'ard boyz semi-final or final or something did use the INAT.
Obviously in the first rounds it is played at each individual store, so you really are at the mercy of the individual store owner's rulings, but I think once they got to the semi-finals they started using the INAT...I have no idea if they will again this year or not.

I still don't see how people try to shoot through drop pods...I spent the other day lining up models and dreads and I could not justify shooting through a pod at the tiny arm or plate that I could see.

because players of other races resent them and want any excuse to make that whopping 35 points not quite so powerful... "yeah you have to open the door to get out smurf! dont like it? then dont play a chhesemarine army full of drop pods!!" I believe that is the attitude of most non-smurfs.

How childish, so these would be the same type of players who would argue that a pinned or glued turret ( a damage repair or just a mistake in building it ) of a vehicle set in one place , because it cant move has a limited field of fire?
Or a landraiders ramp glued in place cant disembark marines ?
If some one stated that during a game I would reply -
" yea ? these are small plastic toys - get a F** grip fella, "

If you haven't assembed them, just leave the guts out of it and add a few 1/16" x 1/16" magnets from ebay to keep the doors closed. Leave them closed when you put them on the table and only open them for the players who cry about it.
As an added bonus you could painted one word on the inside of each door.
Door 1 - Opened
Door 2 - Doors
Door 3 - For
Door 4 - This
Door 5 - Crybaby

Yeah that's kind of what I was getting at too. but you'll always get that dork who makes sure you measure range from the barrel of the sponson gun too from time to time. Non-marine players hate drop pods because they are underpriced and overpowered, so they will use any excuse to make some kind of objection to them (I know from experience, the first time I played against a drop pod army I wanted to strangle all of GW for letting their existance happen). But when you step back, every army has something underpriced and overpowered too so it sort of balances out, just that drop pods are obvious cheese, not concealed cheese... I will never use drop pods. Ever. For one thing the model is expensive and hard to build and I'm lazy = bad combo. I might make one of my own out of card, but I just really don't like the arguements they start and will do just fine with my little homemade card rhinos... At least rhino's are an obvious brick in the way, instead of a TLOS bickering waiting to happen based on where the doors are.

Yup TFG , but then I use a laser pen to prove LOS during games, (not to disprove , but prove for me )
I dont play the LOS tru vehicles/ models legs gak cause that I think isnt in the spirit of the game.

So, the question has been answered, and this seems to be sliding into making baseless claims of bias against players, so I think we're done here...
