For some reason I really want to run a squad of meganobs with the Mad Dok. Here is something I have been considering. I would use the warboss to make the meganobs troops. My 1500 point list has 3 battlewagons as well, and I have had good success keeping the most important battle wagon behind the 2 full of boyz. I am hoping the bikers and copta will serve as a good distraction while the battlewagons approach... Anyone think this has even the slightest bit of merit?

Gitsnak,

What's the list total? I don't have a codex on me but can meganobz get ammorunts? If you're tossing 3 kombi-rokkits
on them that'd be good for those 3, otherwise it's a questionable 15 points to spend. Skorchas are 100% benefit - good there.

I think at 1850 it's a good list, the meganobz are going to make people pay for dumping anti-tank into your bikers and the opposite
is also true. Decent number of models/wounds for a list with 14 nobs. Your ranged AT is weak, but that's what deff rollas/biker nobs are for, eh?

It is currently 1850 exactly

If they could get ammo runts, I would do that, but the only two options are skorchas and rokits, and I wanted to have 3 separate wound groups for wound allocation.

I am looking forward to playtesting it all... if nothing else it will be fun to see how 9 2+/5++ FNP meganobs that are fearless do.

Definately give the other BW a deffrolla as well, sacrificing a Big Shoota, and throw a big shoota on the other BW scarrying the boyz and meganobz as well.

I think at 1850 there are few armies prepared for 9 cybork megas with FNP. In this list the ONLY thing I could see changing besides what WarOne discussed is
perhaps using a KFF Big Mek in one of the BW's instead of the Warboss on bike, but then your BW's may take more heat if they don't see big-nasty biker so perhaps
it's a wash. Really comes down to the army you face and your opponent prioritizing.

Again, I lament Orks can't have 3 HQ's. That's the best section in the codex IMO. Makes me smile.

I don't think there is much point in making a dakka wagon with a deff roller. I wanted to have something that had ranged firepower as I find that it sometimes comes in handy. I know the deff rolla ruling is a good thing, but I just don't feel that spamming them is a necessity. Of course I could easily change my mind while playtesting. On that same note, I don't really see what adding another big shooter to the other wagons will do for me. If the wagons are moving to ram stuff with the rollers, I am likely not going to be able to shoot.

I would love to have a KFF big mek, but as you said Zain, I would lose the troop status of that squad. I will probably try it with the mek one time to see what happens. I am always annoyed at having to have a mek, as all he doe for me is give me the KFF

Sorry to be replying to myself, but does anyone think there would be any merit in dropping one meganob and maybe a few points from somewhere else to get another biker? As the concept goes right now, I plan to use the other fast moving parts of the army to tie people up while the megas pull up and assult everything they can... <excluding things that would smoke them. That is where the boys and guns come in handy. Or so I hope>

The list you have is really tight. Without a large pool of points to work from, losing 40 points without gaining something significant in return may be wasted.

One weakness your army will encounter is massed fire. You have 4 effective targets and a suicide kopter. If you face a Tau list or one that brings lots of troops (read: Tyranids), you may be in for a short game. Being swamped by critters with high initiative and in waves means the Meganobs and Bikers will be locked in combat for a long time. Of course, with all the upgrades you are using, the Nobs and Bikers will be able to handle most anything they come up against.

A second thing to consider would be as you indicated and that is to remove a nob of some kind. The points you use should be applied to a minimal squad of grots.

Reason? You only have 4 troop choices with you. And it is guaranteed you want all those forces up front. Spending 50ish points should be enough for a come out of reserve gretchin unit to help hold your objective just in case the opponent outflanks you and contests your objective.

Cannock

You've got a kannon on the meganobz wagon, they can only move 6" to fire this so your elite close combat unit isn't getting where they want to get.

The above also applies to the second boyz wagon.

I would probably drop a meganob and get another deffkopter though...
