Subject: Tank Shock Question (And not involving the deff rolla either)
|
 |
Revving Ravenwing Biker
|
Ok here is a situation that came up, that I didn't really know how to solve. I was fighting a nob biker army, and he has spaced all his bikes out so that they were is a big single file line, to try and avoid my ordnance weapons. I tank shocked a nob biker without a powerklaw so he couldn't damage me if he death or gloried. He passed the test but in order to move the bike out of the way he would have to break coherency. The rules state that when moving out of the path of a tank they must maintain coherency but this was impossible. So what happens?

-Any terrain containing Sly Marbo is dangerous terrain.
-Sly Marbo once played an objective mission just to see what it was like to not meet every victory condition on his own.
-Sly Marbo bought a third edition rulebook just to play meat grinder as the attacker.
-Marbo doesn't need an Eldar farseer as an ally; his enemies are already doomed
-Sly Marbo was originally armed with a power weapon, but he dropped it while assaulting a space marine command squad just so his enemies could feel pain
-Sly Marbo still attacks the front armor value in assault, for pity's sake. |

It makes a difference if you stopped the tank shock on top of the model or within 1" of it.
If you would have run over him completely he technically would not have moved at all. If you stop on or within an inch, they are moved the shortest distance in order to avoid the vehicle by an inch and maintain coherency. IE he would move nearer to his squad regardless.

He doesn't necessarily move closer to his squad. For instance:
B - B - B - B - B
T
If the Bikers (B) had 2" between them and the Tank (T) shocks the middle Biker, there is no possible way they can maintain coherency if he stops where the middle biker was. It's mathematically impossible to keep within 2" of each other and 1" away from the tank.
In this situation, they simply have to make their next movement phase moving closer to achieve coherency again. That's practically the only thing that changes from a normal, coherent unit.

Wouldn't the biker that got run over by the tank just be placed in front of or behind the next biker in line in this situation? That would be the "shortest route" that maintains coherency.

Coherency is broken with the rest of the bikers on the side of the tank you didn't move the biker to

Maybe I'm seeing a different picture than the rest of you, I see the tank running over the biker on the very end.

Yea, basically if he can't maintain, he tries, then does it next turn if he failed to get there the first time.

You would move them the shortest route THAT KEEPS THEM IN COHERENCY. If doing that means that the models have to move more than they would need to to just move out the way, so be it.

Well page 68 states "If some enemy models in the enemy unit would end up underneath the vehicle when it reaches its final position...these models must be moved out of the way by the shortest distance, leaving at least 1" between them and the vehicle and maintaining unit coherency"
So only the one biker was actually allowed to move, and it was impossible to satisfy both conditions
