Why would you drop a Dreadnought with an AC and a TL AC? Makes no sense really. I'd drop that and take another Ironclad probably. Also, might not want to take the expensive heavy weapons in your Tac squads considering they might not even get the chance to fire at all.

I agree that the AC/AutoC dread shouldn't drop.
However, I don't see any problem with Plas-ing out a tactical squad. They are a little more expensive, but if this is an all comers list and your pal faces any MEQ-ron/Plague Marines they will be happy to have the AP 2.
Also, while you can't use the heavies on Drop turn 1, having them included makes the tact squads much more, well... tactical.

Does anyone think my friend should try to put in another ironclad instead of regular, or even put in venerable dred? If so how would he be able to free up points for them? thank you

i think you should drop the power fists in the tactical squads, tactical squads are there to sit on the objective and not die, not to chase after vehicles. You could put the points you would save into a mm/hf speeder and it would be more effective.

I agree on dropping the power fists. A few more locateor beacons might do well, as you will drop 4 or 5 units via deep strike over the course of the game.
Is the plan to put 5 dreads up close and personal first turn?

I don't see the point in giving a MoF a power weapon because isn't the best in close combat.
Only dreadnoughts with multi meltas and assault cannons need drop pods, ones with auto cannons do not. Any dread with a assault cannon and auto cannon should take 2 autocannons.
Not sure if you're interested but here is a link to my blog www.imperiusdominatus.com and here is a link to a recetn dreadnought heavy list I wrote which has bikes as troops instead: http://www.imperiusdominatus.com/2010/02/army-lists-dreadnoughts-bikes-with-hint.html
Hope that helps!

- remove the plasma from the elite dread and make the 3 elite dreads MM/HF
- remove the 1 HF from the ironclad and go MM/HF it adds duality to him. If he gets an opportunity to pop a tank on the drop let him. I would also drop the missles on the ironclad since hes gonna drop close.
- Like Mercer said drop the plasma variants on drop dreads. either go with 2 AC dreads or imho i would upgrade another heavy dread to a second ironclad.
Now heres where i feel you need to change up a little bit... i would drop the typhoon, fists, power weapons and go melta/ML on all tacs. sgts dont need special weapons they need to break and run if the get in combat. then rapid fire the enemy again.
This list has 9 pods, i would take the additional points and add 2 more pods each with 5 assault marines and a flamer. 2000 pts could have 11 pods in it. You cauld also shave off points by going basic dreads and 1 Iron clad and going 1 assault/ pod squad and another full tac/pod squad.
now you have 6 dreads first turn
