If im not mistaken , every summer GW introduces some major event that effects the story to Warhammer,
anyone know whats in plan for this year? Or is it that battle mission thingy?

Not had one for a couple of years have we? Last one was Medusa V IIRC... or was it WoTR? (not be confused with the supplement released last year)

They should bring them back though.

I don't know how well those things will continue to work if they insist on releasing books with some fun and novel armies which people pay large sums of money for, only to have them pulled and rendered non-legit a few months later.

If you are referring to things like Storm of Chaos and Codex: Eye of Terror.

I think alternate lists released via a Medusa V type booklet with WD that are declared to be "fun only" should work for a summer campaign.

There are some rumours about a Warhammer Fantasy campaign, accompanying the release of 8th edition. Latest Warseer thread with speculations here:

To be honest, do we even need alternate army lists for a campaign? We've got 10+ armies for both Fantasy and 40K, which is more than enough variety without seperate lists for Speed Freaks, Dark Elf Slaanesh cults etc.

At the risk of being a Dakka snob, I just popped over to Warseer to read this thread and the 10 pages of banality made my brain hurt. Suffice to say, I didn't read anything of substance.

Last actual thing I remember was the Nemesis Crown for fantasy, nothing since then.

Was the Nemesis Crown not supposed to appear as a magic item in the next army book of whichever army won the campaign?

Did that ever happen? I don't remember who won the campaign in the end, and/or if that army has had a new army book released since then.

The Dwarves took the crown and put it in a vault or something, so that nobody could ever be swayed by it again.

Somewhere in south-central England.

Medusa V was the last 40K campaign about 3 (?) years ago.

There was a significant amount of blatant cheating. I don't know if it affected the results.

While I think a well run campaign enthuses the players, it is probably difficult to prove a good financial return.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

With current GW rumour policy, it is difficult to get anything of substance 4 months ahead. Esp. when blurred with 8th edition rumours.
Rumours go around "advance in timeline", cavalry-heavy (several cavalry plastic kits to be released for Orcs, Empire, Dark Eldar and Vampires at least) and Kislev. And there is always one person believing in the return of Nagash

Still, following rumours is not for the faint hearted or impatient nowadays.

Frankly, I think they're done with world wide campaigns. You get all the blatant cheating, the whining about who gets what model releases during it, the whining that it "doesn't affect the timeline"(even when they say that it's a "historical" campaign of events that already happened, with a written goal already done), etc.

I think that's why we get things like Battle Missions, Apocalypse, Planetary Empires, etc now.

To be frank, I don't at all understand why after the Storm of Chaos the Empire book has the results and whatnot while the later released Warriors of Chaos say that it is just about to be launched. Same goes for Lizardmen and such.

Plus in the fact I'm still confused as to whether Archaon is official dead or just lost his challenge to Grimgor and slunk away to Brass Keep to fortify his foothold...

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

I started losing track somewhere along Eye of Terror. But I think there is a new Siege of Vraks coming out.

I enjoyed the Medusa V campaign. I was just getting into 40k at the time, and it was cool to have this big event going on. It was pretty cool to go to GW's website and see all these well converted HQs and stuff. I really don't think it had any big effect on the game as a whole, but it was a cool thing for GW to do.

Ther ehave been a few hints here and there about the WH timeline advancing via the rulebook. If this is the case, having a campaign set immediately after the release of the book could be a good and a bad thing.

Good if they set it based on something that has been changed in the rulebook (like kislev being under constant attack, or winds of magic failing etc), bad if they base it nothing interesting and then ignore the result until 9th ed...

I hear the summer event will be a line-wide price hike.
