ok, so i've got a list ready and waiting for the School & College league at warhammer world on the 17th. bulks up on combat-squadded tactical marines in rhinos, with missile launchers staying back. yadda-yadda-yadda, generic cookie-cutter 600 points list.

My question is this: would i be better off taking a captain (Lightning Claw, Storm Bolter, Auxillary grenade launcher and Artificer Armor) or a librarian (standard equipment loadout) with Gate of Infinity and Smite, upgraded to epistolary?
i've played games using the captain, but not the librarian. My worry is that the librarian is a lot squishier, what with the 2 wounds, no invunerable save and Perils of the Warp. However, by my reckoning i'd be able to put out a lot more pain, and i'd have a tactical advantage, with the librarian.

What do you guys think? i'm going to try it out but i only have one more game before the tournament, so any advice/opinions on the matter would be great thanks

[Edit] In hindsight i suppose this is more suitable for the Army Lists forum, not tactics.. sorry if this is in the wrong place [/Edit]

I've had great success running a 100 point librarian with Null Zone and Avenger. Use him to buff your tac marines shooting against uber units and to complement them with an additional S5, AP3 flamer when you have to close ranks and counter attack by fire.

i haven't got the codex on me at the moment, but null zone is the reroll invunerable saves power, right? my worry with that is that while shooting it's rare that they'll have to take an invunerable save as opposed to normal armor save anyway (or at least in the games i've played so far- Tau, necron and orks mostly)
So, using that, i shoot for as many turns as possible before assaulting, as opposed to what i have been doing with the captain? (shooting with pistols when in range, and then assaulting on the same turn)
cheers,
Ash

I would run the Librarian as a basic 100 point dude with Null Zone and Avenger.

I would put him with a Razorback 5-man Tac squad, with my other Troops option being another Razorback 5-man Tac squad, and cram as many Dakka Predators as I could into the rest of the list.

thanks for the reply

unfortunately that'd require buying more models, assembling and painting them; since i have a mere 10 days i won't have time to get that done along with my college work, i'm just trying to work with what i have here.

So the concensus seems to be null zone and avenger; i'll give that a try on wednesday
