Subject: Im getting a PS3!

For my birthday, so just over a month away. My wife decided she still loves me, and is getting me one for my present. Im totally excited. Im planning on getting grand theft auto4 and the game of the year edition of Oblivion. I played the first version on a 360 when it first came out, and got bored after beating it so many times. But much like Morrowind, Ive been getting the itch to play it pretty hard.
Anywho, what games have you guys played on the PS3 that are really good? Ive been out of the "hardcore" gaming scene for a few years so Im lacking in knowledge, and the local game store just keeps ranting about "PRE ORDER THIS UBER SHINY NEW GAME!!!!!!! RRAAARRRRR!!!!"
and that annoys me  Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh yea, I like killing things like HITMAN style, and good RPGs are always a plus. Im pretty open as long as its a BLAST to play, and dont mind it taking 100+ hours to get it all down.

lol I just posted about how Im not a fan of FF games anymore. The characters are so girly that I end up watching them instead of playing. I mena how can I portray IM A KILLING MACHINE! THE BADDEST MOFO ON THE CONTINENT, when Im checking myself out. But that being said, Borderlands looks pretty cool. I like the art style of it as well. And I actually used to be a hardcore playstation gamer for years. Hell Ive owned probably 4 PS2s over the years. So I think Ill feel at home with the PS3. One of my brothers has a 360, and although the games are cool, I find myself eyeing the PS3 far more. Sides I had a 360 once, and didnt care for it too much, but I will agree the xbox360 controller is SOOOOooo comfy in the hand  Maybe Ill buy one of those hacked for PS3 ones lol

Same here i just got one on Friday thanks to taxes. It took about eight stores to find one and got the last one thanks to the obscure Toys are us still hanging around and got Borderlands. Also got DragonAge and thinking about turning this back in for God of War III for half price. I definitely recommend Borderlands as it has a pretty funny storyline and is a blast to play two players. DragonAge is really slow so far. There is just too much damn talking and am kinda put off right now by it.

Bollocks, Dragon Age is a great RPG. Of course there's a gakload of dialogue, it's a big part of RPGs these days.
Borderlands is less of a character-driven RPG and more like Diablo with guns (not that that's a bad thing).

I hadn't thought about it that way. Interesting. It certainly doesn't fit the typical defenition of RPG, but if you look at the literal meaning of the term it applies quite directly. On the other hand, using the literal meaning of the term "role-playing game" could apply to almost any game (though not as well as it does to Heavy Rain).
I don't know, I guess its best to shy away from that category for now. It might change meaning in the future, but for now it doesn't do much to describe the game, since people expect stats and such.

Heavy Rain looks cool as hell, I played the demo and I was VERY impressed.
MGS4 is incredible, I played through the single player 10+ times before going into Metal Gear Online, and I put over 500 hours into MGO, so much fun.
Killzone 2 is easily the best looking shooter i've ever seen, and its hella fun.
Fallout 3 GOTYE of course
Demon Souls seriously, look up this game on gametrailers.com, they have some excellent reviews.

See this game alone, would honestly make me want to buy a PS3. Ive been a gran tourismo fan since the first one hit the playstation. I was a little disapointed with 4 the further in the game you got. Simply because I started noticing that the majority of cars had a very similar engine sound(Im a car guy, that annoyed me) as well as front wheel drives were severely underpowered in it. Apparently FWD means you cant go fast, which if any of you have seen some hopped up imports will laugh at that idea. But yea, number 5 is SO on my waiting list. Im just curious to see how bad ass it is with the basically unlimited power of the ps3

I'm surprised you didn't like the engine sounds.
I've done two sets of promo video filming on GT -- GT3 and GT4 -- and I know for a fact the production team put huge effort into recording engine sounds of different cars, real paint colours and other details.
Maybe the data got lost later in production somehow.

I guess I should explain a little better. When you first start out, yes the engine sounds are fantastic. But after your garage full of vehicles hits really high horsepower, they all end up sounding very similar while racing. Thats what got on my nerves. But sitting there, or just putting around they sounded really nice. Im a surround sound guy, and when I did that classic car race sections (I cant remember what they were called its been forever since I played 4) I was blown away at how they sounded.

Yea man, check it out on youtube, or their website. The game is suppose to be just humongous, and they even put official NASCAR everything into the game. Im not a nascar fan, but I still think thats pretty damn cool

Welp, got the PS3 the other day, and my wife was shopping at Sams Club and was nice enough to buy me Fallout3 as ANOTHER surprise.......god I hope she isnt pregnant Anywho, just got out of the vault and already this game is just awesome. I think Im going to be a bad guy, since I unknowingly blew the brains out of the vault leader guy. Oh well, dont stand in the way of a man and his gun

Spoke to a lot of people at PAX East about what PS3 games I should get, once I purchase my system to play Heavy Rain. I only wanted to know from PS3-exclusives.

Anywho, thanks for the game ideas so far gents. I almost rented the red faction guerrilla, but the fact that red faction 2 was such a crappy game I didnt. Ill have to check it out. I finally finished Fallout3 a couple times over and honestly Im glad I got it out of my system. I was a little too hooked
Rachet and clank is a pretty good series. I bought my nephew one of those games for his bday recently, and he is playing the crap out of it. Hell I even rocked it a little bit and had a blast.
Ill check out Metal Gear Solid 4. I was a huge fan of solid when it first came out, and have liked metal gear games mostly. Some parts are a little meh but all in all good. I read some reviews on it when it first launched and it looked promising.

I don't know if you have a Gamestop in your area but they've been having a sale where some games like COD:World at War and MSG4 were only $20 each new. I picked up both and though they are a bit older they still rock.

And did you mean heavy rain? Ive heard so much good about that game that Im really wanting to rent it to see how it is. Same with portal. Still need to check that one out.
