Heroes and Dragons is hosting a 2000 point 40k tournament on March 20th.

10$ entry fee, with a battle box going to first, other prizes TBA based on attendance.

Start time is noon. I'd encourage players to show up early to register.

For anyone traveling, a group of us usually hits up dinner after the tourney (circa 9pm)-- always enjoy meeting new 40k players!

Any idea on attendance?

Don't want to drive 4 hours for a 6 person tournament. :(

Also, rulesets? Missions? Standard 40k stuff? Special house rules?

Standard 40k rules, no house rules (rules disputes are usually resolved by TO, with occasional reference to INAT).

Missions have been custom tournament scenarios lately, with Primary/Secondary objectives.

Attendance--- can vary wildly. Our largest tourney so far was 18 players in January, with our smallest being a few weeks ago when we had that snow (even then, 6 people showed up).

Given that the announced prize is about double what we normally do, I'd expect turnout to be higher than average. Also, the Easley crew was talking about coming down to play, so there's a very real possibility of maxing out our game space-- in which case, I guess we'll pull some more tables in!

Just from asking around this past weekend about people planning to play it is looking like there will be a pretty big turnout. I would assume if the Easley crew comes down we will be looking at 18 people again no problem. Maybe more with this post now.

Argh, I used to live near here (my parents are there). I don't think there were many tournaments when I did, though... nice to see so much action going on

BUMP for 1 Week out. Dropped by the store, and the board says we will be using "narrative scenarios."

Battle Missions, maybe? Not sure, but still looking forward to some 40k this Saturday!

We will be showing up with probably with about 4. See you in the morning. Glad to see a SC tourney scene starting to evolve like the one in Altanta.

What kind of evolution do you mean?

I don't know what CB is trying to say, but I guess mostly 'evolution' in the sense that more organized gamers/tournaments are starting to pop up. Columbia, for example, was pretty much devoid of organized 40k play until this year.

Either way, I'm just glad there's more gaming going on- it's a win-win for SC 40k folk.

Truth, kartofelkopf. More is better. I was just curious if this evolution was in different mission styles, some new tourney format(s), or what.

It's actually a little of both I would say. More people playing 40k, more tournaments being run, as well as using all custom scenarios in the past few months. For instance we had a Planetary Empires campaign run like a tournament over a few month period back in the fall. I think aside from the lack of static terrain tables we have a very good FLGS when it comes to minis gaming.

Looking forward to seeing the Easley crew again and anyone else who shows up.

Well, we've definitely seen that kind of change in Columbia. As early as last year, our tourneys were random missions each round, with each table rolling seperately, player set terrain, etc. We've progressed to pre-set terrain, pre-determined missions (which is especially helpful when victory points is used as a tiebreaker), and other "real" tournament conventions.

I will be interested to see what the missions are this weekend. The board describes them as "narrative scenarios"... not sure what to expect.

Sounds like a great deal of positive change! Glad to hear it. I played there a lot about a decade ago, and thouroghly enjoyed the place right up to when I moved. I do miss it.

I gotta go an pickup a model at the store today. Think I will talk to Ben about the possible need to add another table or two for Saturday.

They have a pretty good amount of loose terrain so we should be good. They however only have 8 standing tables so some of the card tables will have to be pushed together and we use the rollout felt on those to cover that center gap.

As I said before I am heading to the store today so I am gonna give the TO a heads up on the possible 20+ body count. I will let him know we have extra scenery available if needed and thanks.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Just got back from the store. They have ability to handle 22 people it looks like. I am gonna go by Lowes Friday and snag another board in case we need to stretch it to 24.

Charlie: We actually have a nice stash of scenery in boxes on a back shelf that I forgot we never even use so def no need to bring the additional.

Looking forward to seeing everyone Saturday.

We had a great time. There were 21 players. Even tau were there. We had a second place, a sixth and a couple others that placed by the end of the pack. We are hosting our 1500 pt event in Easley SC next weekend. Hope to see some of the guys at our place next weekend.

Wish I could have come, but my request to travel 4 hours for it got denied by the wife. ><

Sounds like it would have been worth it. COlumbia is not a real great city for amusing oneself unless you just enjoy wholesale liver damage, but I am sure with some research you could have found something to keep her occupied. Heck, Lake Murray isnt too far away, maybe a boat rental or something??

Was a good turnout and congrats to bootts on the win. Here we are thinking we got a three way tie for first and the Nids pull ahead by a few for the win. Looking forward to our next big tourney you guys can head up for. Hopefully I will be able to make it to the Easley tournament next weekend. A friend of mine just got his motor fixed for his boat so if the weather is great I am gonna probably be fishing on the lake.
