OK, I apologize in advance for a question that is doubtlessly both dumb and been asked before - but when I try searching the forums, I get too many results which are non-relevant. So:

Does the combat shield "use" a hand, which is to say, only one handed weapons can then be equipped? I assumed so, but in reading the Angry Marines codex (admittedly as non-canon as it comes) it allows for the use of both hands. I'm wondering - is this a special rule for this army, or the way they actually should work?

I'm at work, so have neither my codex, nor the patience to wait until I do.

Usually they are forearm - this means you can gain the bonus for 2CCW, unless otherwise prevented from doing so.

Combat shields don't use a hand. Not an issue anyway in newer codexes.

Also worth pointing out that having a single-handed weapon doesn't stop you from using 2-handed weapons.

It doesn't actually matter where it is modelled. You could model it on then models ass for all the rules really care. If the rules say you cannot get a bonus attack for having it , you can't, regardless of where it is modelled.

And, if the marine in question was sentenced to hard time for some perceived crime, that would probably be the ideal place for it to be....

Marines that have transgressed are generally held on hulks (no engines, weapons, minimal life support) with *no other people onboard* - assuming they are not simply executed. Apparently anything else isnt considered secure enough....

But, do they get posterior mounted combat shields? I definitely think they'd need them in that circumstance....

Who would they need protection from?

Or is this an Astartes organ implant that isnt on the standard list?

Well, it has been shown in the study of sexual deviancy that castration does not remove the urge...

And if the urge were coming on a 7' tall, 300 lb dude and a half dozen of his buddies, I'd want all the protection I could get.

I think that's far enough down that particular road...
