I just started playing warhammer 40k again and decided to go space wolfs. i had a question about special characters like(Bjorn the Fell-handed) and tournaments. Are you allowed to use special characters at tournaments or are they not allowed. My friend tells me they are not allowed unless both players agree. donno if hes right or not so i figure id asked here .

Your friend is stuck in 3rd edition.

Special Characters in newer codexes have no such "Permission only" clause, but all tournaments are different, so you have to ask the person running the Tournament as they are the only ones who can answer you.

In general most tournaments seem to allow all special characters, however some may restrict you to only taking characters which fundamentally change the army composition - for example Belial for Dark Angels, or may ban all, with no exceptions.

As ever ANY tournament can set ANY rules they like, so the only noe who can state for certainty is the TO for the tournament you are going to. We can say what is generally the case, but you always have the chance someone dislikes spiky marines and so bans chaos...

I havn't played many tournys, but are you saying they can ban a whole army?

The people running the tournament have final say on whatever they want. If they want to ban Orks, they can. If they want to Ban anything painted Yellow, they can. If they want to make Bolters S10 Ap1 with a 74" range and Assault 67, they can.

Their tourney, their rules. From what codexes are allowed, to if they use their own FAQs over GW produced ones, to anything coloured yellow is banned.
