Greetings, all.

Planning a massive Apoc game - it's going to be on a table 21' by 4'. That's a whopping 84 square feet. I am trying to decide on points-limits for this game, and I have a couple of questions.

How many points will fit in 1 square foot (estimate)?

If you've played a game where the table was particulary packed, I'd be curious how many points per side that game was and also how big the table was.

I realize that terrain will cut down the total available space, but I'm not too worried about it yet. At the moment, I am envisioning a game with 40K points per side.

All comments welcome!

Depends at least in part on the armies involved.

On a 6-foot table, you're usually running out of reasonable room for anything over 2000 points, unless the armies are particularly small. For Apocalypse, you can afford to cram them on a bit more... so I'd say 2500-3000 for every 6 feet of table. Unless you have a lot of Orks or Guard involved...

So 21 feet of table would give you room for about 10000 points. More if there are a lot of super-heavies involved to soak up points, or if you force a specific amount from each side into Reserve.

If you have superheavies you can fit more on the table.

Especially since massive pie plates will be removing lots of models...

Yeah, I thought about it a little more.

A square foot is 144 square inches.

I can fit an Ork into every square inch.

That's nearly 900 points.

But take a couple Orks out and instead add a Warboss and a Nob - you're up to 1000 there.

And of course, that's CHEAP Orks. What if you were dropping 1 Space Marine in there for every Square Inch?

Points add up fast.

Good logic. I'd say somewhere between 10,000 to 15,000 per side should be about right, depending on how densely packed you want things. 20,000 per side can work but would be packed for elite armies and nonelite armies like Orks or guard simply wouldn't be able to fit at all.

I noticed that they have a 40,000 point fight going on in WD333. I am scouring the article for information on table sizes as we speak. I don't know if it is REALLY a 40,000 point battle since they have 20,000 points per side (I would call this a 20,000 point battle, wouldn't you?)

Research continues.
