So Im not super big on special characters, based on their high cost and availability of only being in one place at one time. All that to say, I want to try to swing a 500pt Chaos list that works really well together, and then add Ahriman to it.

I think that he has potential to do really well, even in a game this size, based on the amount of powers he can pump out. Anti-Tanks? Three Bolts of Change! Anti-Horde? Three Doom Bolts/Winds of Chaos. Annoying Sgts/Nobs/ect.? Gift of Chaos all around!

Some stipulations Id like to work in, in addtion to him, are a small squad of Thousand Sons as a "retinue" of sorts for him, just for fluff reasons really. Anywhere from the minimum to nine. And, as crazy as it is (like the rest of this idea probably) Id like to get 1 or both Dreadnoughts in too.

So.....isn't there any redeeming quality to this idea? I guess Id just need to square up a good 500pt list to just add Ahriman to. Can anyone recommend that anyways?

I might be overthinking on what units to try to put in. Im all for keeping things simple, as I think Ill be fighting against a Tau player without a ton of experience, so my army would be more for fun than for winning.

Im not sure if you can fit 2 dreads in, without trying to minimize Chaos Marine squads down to 5 man.

Has anyone tried this?

I don't play Chaos, but I see that against a very experienced Tau player, your army will get ripped to shreds before even reaching enemy lines.

Are your terminators deep striking? If they arrive at the right time, then you might be able to kill his models, but otherwise he'll be able to blow up your whole army from far and outmaneouver the survivors and kill them. Consider getting drop pods for your assault units and tough units. Leave only the inexpensive units behind, and make most of your force deep strike, taking away several turns of shooting from your enemy.

Chaos dont have drop pods outside of imperial armour.

I love sons and there fluff although technically ahriman shouldnt be with them because he is exile but who cares they are awsome

I suggest one squad of normal chaos space

1 squad of eight sons plus sorcerer with doombolt
and 1 vindicator then ahriman

Given your wishes and since it's mainly for fun... how about this for 750 pts:

HQ
1x Ahriman

EL
1x Chaos Dreadnought (Dread CC wpn, Missile Launcher)
1x Chaos Dreadnought (Dread CC wpn, Missile Launcher)

TR
5x Thousand Sons, 1x Asp Sorcerer (Doombolt)
5x CSM (1x Flamer), 1x Rhino

Here the 2 dreads may start close together in order to negate fire frenzy by using frag missiles on the other, if you like.

Other than that it'd be funny as hell watching Ahriman trying to lead those forces to battle. What with Tweedle Dread and Tweedle Naught fighting behind him

Wow, that is a smart way to negate fire frenzy, never thought of that.

Yea, I figured it was a stupid idea, I was going for a more fun aspect of the game rather than power gaming.
