I've been playing hybrid guard, but I got a bit bored and wanted to try to see how a mech vet list would go.

Gosh those are expensive Leman Russes. Imagine the fun you could have with three Manticores!

Q: How many of a specific demographic group are required to carry out a simple task?
A: An arbitrary number. One to carry out the task in question, and the remainder to act in a manner stereotypical of the group.

The CCS chimera doesn't need extra armour because it doesn't have a must have deliver pay load.

The heavy bolters on the vendetta are a ood choice. The lascannons crack tanks but heavy bolters hardly scratch them.

The Leman Russ are too expensive. It might be better to trade them in for more Manticores or Vendettas. (Note that if you have another Vendetta, you get to drop a Chimera, so that could free up some more points).

I wouldn't bother with Demolitions on the vets. For the melta vets, the meltaguns should destroy any armored target. If they don't, since your vets probably just disembarked and can't assault anyway, the meltabombs are a waste, since the vehicle will move, and your opponent will probably try to wipe the squad anyway. The demo charge might be useful, but for 30 pts., it's not worth it.

Carapace on the plasma vets might be more helpful, because it could save a few from plasma overheats. Other than that though, I wouldn't really bother with it. It won't greatly increase their survivability outside of a transport, and the points are better spent somewhere else.

The Vendetta is for transporting vets and then tank-hunting. Don't bother with the heavy bolters.

Ok, thanks for the feedback. I do not have another Manticore, or Vendetta, so I can't put that in.

Dropping the Heavy Bolters on the Vendetta, and Demolitions on the Chimera Vets.

So now I'm at 1460 points, what should I spend them on?

I usually run my plasma vets with an autocannon heavy weapon team. My plasma vets are objective sitters though, so it depends on how you use them. Plasma vets + auto cannon in a chimera w/ heavy bolter / stubber is a nasty line up:

Best Case @ 12":

6 str 7 ap 2
2 str 7 ap 4
3 str 6 ap 6
3 str 5 ap 4
3 str 4 ap (5? dont remember stubber)

17 shots

@ 36":

2 str 7 ap 4
3 str 6 ap 6
3 str 5 ap 4

8 shots at a really decent range

Gives a nice high volume of fire, transport popping capabilities at range, and some low ap shots for when things get close.

Gwar: I'm going to quit while I can.

Meh, close enough

I personally would drop the carapace or the other demo and get another chimera, to keep the vend as a dedicated gunship. List looks good.

I also noticed nobody has said anything about Marbo, how does he preform? I've never used him.

I've never used him either - just not my style - but it seems like those who like him, love him. I see him mostly on mech lists, and read alot of stories about the massive amounts of damage he deals.

I used him one time. He dropped in, tossed a demo charge on a freshly cracked landraider, and killed off an entire terminator squad +put a wound on abaddon. Abaddon then tore him apart and died in the next shooting phase.

So, he made like 5x his points back the one time I used him. He performed well, but idk, I just don't like catachans, and I had no room in my 2k list.

I agree with murdog for what to do with the extra points.

Personally, I like Marbo. He's cheap, and he gets the job done most of the time. I'm sure it would be easy enough to model something if you don't like the Catachan style.

Some areas you could trim points:
The astropath seems unnecessary - you're only using him for the vendetta and marbo right? And the vendetta is arguably just as good starting on the board.

Carapace on veterans/medipack on CCS - I don't think these upgrades are worth it, especially if you're taking them to prevent 'gets hot' wounds. The best protection against those is numbers or if possible the 'bring it down' order which re-rolls hits and thus vastly reduces the 1s. CCS especially - you could save 15 points by putting in another plasma gun instead of the medic, and even if someone dies earlier, your squad has the same damage potential.

I think extra armour on chimeras is a waste at 15 points, demolitions on melta squads is a matter of taste - I probably wouldn't take it because if you get out to melta a land raider, you're almost certainly dead next turn, and lose the 30 point investment, but on the other hand it can be very useful.

Other than those issues, very strong list, good luck.

Put Carapace on the CCS, drop the Medipack(they will not be getting out of the chimera unless it blows up) and get another Plasmagunner -5points

Drop the Astropath +30points

Drop the Heavy Bolters on the Vendetta, you are confusing it's role +10 points

Drop the extra Armor off the Chimeras(I am a fan of EA don't get me wrong but you need the points somewhere else) +30points

Switch the Plasma Cannon Sponsons on one of your Leman Russes to Heavy Bolters +20points

Change the other Russ into an executioner(keeping the Plasma Sponsons) -40points

Give the Plasma Vets Forward Sentries -30points

you have 15 points left to do with as you please.

Put the second Melta Vets into the Plasma Vet's Chimeras instead; you do not want the Vendetta that close to the enemy.

Tactic: Drop the Plasma Vets off in cover and Begin Firing while the Vendetta holds in the back line popping transports/hurting MCs.
