Title says it all really. Whereas with Melta one would simply Spam 10 of them, with flamers it's a bit trickier. From what I can tell it's 6 or 7 that can fire in 1 direction from a Drop Pod without hitting friendlies.

Are you talking about taking a sternguard unit in a droppod? That is the only way you can get that many flamers in a unit. Even so, only 2 will be standard flamers, and the rest combi-flamers.

You can max out on combi-flamers and use them sparingly so that you can have 2-3 rounds of flamage (2 flamers a round, plus 2-3 of the combi shots = 4-5 flame templates from the squad). You then remove those who have already used the combi flamers as casualties (which is inevitable).

Does that help you out? Or are you thinking something completely different?

Cheers

You can shoot 10 if you position them right. The trick is leaving a 10mm gap between models in the front, and having the remaining 4 models stand between them.

If you angle them in a U shape while doing this all 10 can hit.

I was talking about Wolf Guard actually. You can get 10 Guard with a Combi-x each and a Pod for 265 points (And they are Troops in the right army )

As for the Gap Trick, good point, I shall have to fiddle about and see how I can work this

That would be quite epic against hordes . . . =D

So we have a use for combi-meltas and -flamers . . . if only there was a use for -plasmas that wasn't suicidal over-heating =D . . . Maybe shooting termies . . .

I'd go for all 10 combiflamers. Sure it will be overkill against some units, but you don't have to use all the flamers simultaneously.
