Hey everyone, i've just recently moved from playing both a Necron and Tau Empire 600 point army, and after having a quick look at the Imperial Guard codex every now and then, they seem to definatly be a fun army to play.

The only problem with them is, i have no idea whats the best option for a 600 point army (It can be more but a 600 point army list would be awsome as the games i play agaisnt friends in our games are mostly 600 so we can get ready for a tournament coming up) I've had attempts at coming up with army lists but fail each time. Either making them too weak or gearing one sqaud too much.

Any help would be massively appreciative!

Well, try one out and we'll critique it, but not many are into writing lists from scratch for other people...

Try writing up a list; you won't do well with a list that doesn't fit your playstyle.

Just use these guidelines:

1. Take no upgrades that aren't weapon upgrades. They're too situational.
2. You should be able to handle any threat - the things you need to do are:

a. Take out 3+ save guys
b. Take out large numbers of infantry like Orks/Guardsmen/etc
c. Take out light tanks/transports at range - weapons like autocannons and multilasers are good here
d. Take out heavy armor - meltaguns are good.

Make sure each unit you take can fill one of these roles well.

3. Redundancy. It's not possible to be truly redundant at such low points, but you want to try your best to have 2-3 units to kill each of the targets covered in #2.

4. Don't sink points. Any unit more than, say, 180 points (including upgrades, transport, etc) at this point level is too big an investment.

The list Skhom posted is okay, but I'd personally be a little concerned with a vendetta at that point level - you don't really need it. It doesn't cover heavy armor well - how will you take out the Marine player with a Land Raider? The PCS doesn't really fill any of the four roles, and could probably be better equipped (maybe 4 grenade launchers, or a chimera and 4 meltaguns would work).

Hope I helped

Remember you can always proxy your guard to try out a list before you have the models, just use your tau or necron as counts as

Total:595 pts.

At low points range, spent least on upgrades and focus on take more guns. At 600pts there would not many heavy armor, so no need to equip every suqad with meltaguns, several flamers would be better against infantries.

Primaris Psyker isn't a HQ alone, you need others

Wait, what.

The Primaris is a perfectly good HQ when you need to save points to spend in other areas, or even to add a bit of kick to a squad (I assume he'll be riding with the flamervets in tokugawa's list).

I do like Tokugawa's list, though. I'm not sure how well the hydra fits in (it's the only static element in the army) and it might be better replaced by a pair of autocannon sentinels outflanking or maybe Marbo.
