Subject: Armor Question?

Quick question
How necessary is Armor in 5th edition? I would like to make an all infantry SW army and am wondering about how it would compete. Thanks.

It depends on who you play against when it comes down to it. I play laregly without vehicles. That is possible in large part because my opponents don't use a ton of vehicles either. Most of us used to play editons ago and started playing again and didn't have vehicles. Transport is very important to the game. With it now being survivable you should generally take transport for half of your units if not more. Don't plan on them survivng too long, but they get you a lot closer. The point cost and survivabilty of armor makes it very playable now. It just depends on if your opponents field armys that require you to respond in kind or not. I plan on my transports survivng for 1 or 2 turns, which is about how long they surrive. Even with that little time on the field they are very useful.

One thing about not having vehicles is that all the stuff the other guy brought to blow them up is going to underperform against your infantry. That only really matters if the opponent doesn't know about it beforehand...

All Infantry SW can be competitive as can some all Infantry 'nilla marines, and Imp Guard. a Green Tide list just gets sick.
Murdog has it absolutely correct that Chi-melta-vets and the like are largely useless vs an all infantry army. Provided you can mitigate the Chimera/IFV bought for them.
My SM list only has 4(sometimes 5) Vehicles at 1850-2000 points, and my IG list has 0(I know weird right?)
The Wife's Orks has 2 Trukks and a Looted Wagon.
The thing with putting Vehicles into lists is you want there to be enough to force the opponent to focus on 1-2 at a time and hope the rest get through.
When building All infantry lists in 5th edition you want to saturate the field with what would be priority targets that way you can get down field(or still send enough shots down range) to ruin the opponent's day.

Vehicles, particularly transports, are very popular in the netlist metagame.
Take from that what you wish.
I take it to mean that there are some very strong lists with a lot of transports, but you don't HAVE to take anything to win local friendly games.
Still, 5e really demands that you be able to get your models places. SWs don't have any good way to get Troops places besides transports (not that many armies do).
I like the mix of 5 Grey Hunters and a Wolf Guard in a Razorback.

Remember that if you table your opponent you win objective missions by default.

A freind of mine recently started a SW army.
before he was a tank fanatic (he has somthing like a whole tank company and 4 baneblades!) but on his SW list he is not going to use any tanks. And he is doing well as he SW army relies on its awesome shooting to force the opposing army to close with him where he either rapid fires his grey hunters and counter-0attacks the charge after or just charges himself. He chose a rune priest to lead the army with jaws of the world wolf which frighted severly players at my gaming group to close with him very rapidly!
