Hey everyone, our gaming club meets every Saturday morning and we usually alternate between one 1500/2000 pt match followed by a bunch of small 500 pt games. I really love the idea of a 500 pt match; it's short, sweet and forces you to be more tactically minded since they often exclude the OTT OP choices. Any suggestions for a 500 pt Ork list? Here's one of my faves (previously posted somewhere else on this forum, IIRC):

500 pts: Warphead's Gang
HQ - 1 Warphead @ 85 pts
Elites - 8 Lootas @ 120 pts
Troops - 30 Slugga Boyz, 2 with Big Shootas [Nob with PK, 'Eavy, BP] @ 235 pts
Fast Attack - 1 Deffkopta with Buzzsaw @ 60 pts

I can see this list doing well; I assume the FOC is only 1 compulsory Troops choice?

I'm not sure... I guess it would be 1 compulsory and 2 optional. Really not sure, though (still bit of a rules n00b).

I meant specially for your 500 point games if not your list is not legal.

Standard FOC compulsory is 2 Troops

But does that still hold true even for such a small army? Especially if we're only playing Annihilation matches at 500 pts? Keep in mind that your average troops choice is about 220-250 pts.

Not if your group decides it doesn't. Otherwise it does still hold true. (you can easily split your 30 boy mob into 2 10-15 Boy squads)

you cant change the standard FOC unless the mission says otherwise or your FLGS is okay with it in most places that is not allowed no matter what the point cost you play and at 500 pts most people dont have an elite choice or fast attack they use the 500 pts for more important things and they add the rest if they have points to spare keep in mind you are playing a horde army and if you want to play a horde army with small numbers(ex. using 5-10 in a squad to make room for lootas or something) i 100% guarantee you and your army will be annihalated before turn 5 and keep in mind ive seen these happen to 1000+ worth of orks died in turn 4 your priority is your HQ and 2 squads or troops missions cant always be annhalation.

as for your list its good take out your lootas and deff kopta(lootas dont really have alot to kill and 8 of them? most people go 10-15 theres a BIG difference with having 8-10 lootas these guys have Bs 2 you need to have alot the deffkopta wont do anything actually since its alone) i suggest a squad of grots(cheaper plus they can be objective holders and in annihalation meat shields for a 4+ sv on your boyz otherwise get shoota boyz(shootas are free btw) if you take out your 8 lootas and kopta you get 20 more boyz who shoot alot more!! S 4 AP 6 ASSAULT 2!! imagine having a squad of 20 40 shots of mass fire to your enemy!!

with that said i hope you and your list will smash some umies in the future

I mostly play 500 games and my nemesis plays orks. He nearly always brings loota's and they are complete 's.

Yeah they got BS2 but when you have 20 plus AC rounds fire at an IG vet sqaud they can do a lot of damage. Admittedly this means that his boys squads are very small but having Loota's shooting at you can get really distracting, especially as he must sacrafice sheep to the dice gods or something like that as he nearly always seems to get three shots each.

Against more experiencd Players (still a bit of a noob) or MEQ's I doubt they would be as good. At 500 you want as many boyz as you can get.

Trigger: most 500 point games are set up with a Limited FOC, and reduced compulsory. Also 20 Shoota Boyz may pump out 40 shots, but they do so at only 18"range, whereas 8 Lootas can pump out 8-27 shots @ 48" in the long run Lootas bring more dakka to the table.

SpankHammer: Even against MEQs(of which there will be a lot less) this list should fare well 8-27 AC hits with BS2 translates to an average of Almost 3-8 hits, almost all wounding and with roughly 1-3 failed saves, add in Warphead Blast and you could wipe a MEQ squad in 2-3 turns(and again at this level there will not be many MEQ squads).

Kommisar Kel: see your point, not really arguing against their inclusion at 500 points at very least they will be fun. Like I said i've played against it and have had great dificulty dealing with it. You can either split your fire which is never a good idea, target the lootas in which case the boyz close on you or target the boyz and just soak up the AC rounds. They can be a real pain. I only thought they wouldn't do as well against MEQ because they are only AP4, still kill rhinos though. The problem with lootas in 500 point games is you are not likely to have more than 10 so they won't get fearless. They are also quite expensive, so if you have to follow normal FOC then your boyz squad are going to be a little small.

Orky-Kowboy: sorry for getting of track a little, if you don't have to follow normal FOC then I think you have a good list, like Kel said a lot of people play combat patrol rules or some other version at 500 allowing different FOC. Its worth finding out what your local gamers play. Personally at 500 I play standard FOC.

Some Tau World

i always play 8 lootas in my 1500pt army and they never get shot at everyone is shooting at the boys,
also at my club there is an ork player that has 30 lootas and he out shot a tau army, think 48"range vs 30"range the tau army has to move forward

also i would drop the 1 Deffkopta with Buzzsaw @ 60 pts
and get 3 kannon
