Somewhere in south-central England.

28mm is 1/56 scale.

1/48 is too small for vehicles but just right for aircraft.

1/35 is a good scale for vehicles for 40K. They are larger than the GW vehicles but the GW vehicles are too small for the figures.

That said, if you wanted to do a whole army with 1/48 scale vehicles they would be consistent with each other.

The choice of kits is much better in 1/35 for vehicles and in 1/48 for aircraft.

Check my article here...

http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Scale_Model_Kits_for_40K

It lists the model sizes of a number of popular vehicles in GW scale, 1/48 scale and 1/35 scale.

Most vehicle model kits are a 3 on the Hobby Link Japan scale of ease of assembly (1 to 5.)

Compared to GW vehicles they are more complicated (more parts) but they fit together well and have good instructions.

Tamiya, Hobby Boss and AFV Club are all good makes.
