My name's Zath, for all intents and purpouses.
For the past fifteen years, I jibed fun at guys who played WH40k despite being a huge pen and paper nerd myself.
My reasoning was that why would you pay so much for something that you probably don't want to repaint or modify.
Then, over a tour in Iraq, a few of my buddies were spending their free time painting models or otherwise discussing
the half-truths and legends surrounding the 40k universe, and when I got back I found myself with a small reserve of
slush funds.
Deciding that I liked the glorious last stands that one of my more sombre buddies spoke of, I decided that Imperial Guard
was the Army for me.
Further reinforcing this, was my distaste for SMs, who seemed to be EVERYWHERE. Even back when I was a teenager,
visiting the local hobby shop down the street from myself, I saw Space Wolves, Ultra Marines, Emporer's Fists, etc, and
various CSM legions. One instance I recall from this shop was for the past ten years, the same Eldar army has been
for sale in their display cases, while the Tau and SM armies were gone within a month, yet those poor pointy-eared
heretics still sat there.
I didn't even know at this time that normal humans were playable, I just saw boxes and boxes of Catachans sitting there,
waiting to be sold.

My work can be seen in my gallery, and this is the first time I've ever tried painting miniatures. Models at that, even.
I apologize here, for the lack of details visible; my camera at this time kinda sucks and it's been a slow process to
make any headway with the painting. Oh well, I guess that's what happens when you buy box after box of bits
in order to have enough that you Think you'll be happy with.

Yes, the hobby does seem silly to those not into it. Welcome to Dakka, and nice pics.

Thank you muchly, Tim.
Come to think of it, for the longest time, I didn't have a leg to stand on when it comes to deeming miniature wargaming to be silly.
Yet, every time I pick up one of my guys and see this
little detail still needing to be drawn out, or salivate over
that model and stare at the workspace with gobs of bits that still yet need a home, it's about as comforting to me
as the sharp pinging of piening copper rivits in leather armor.

How is it they live in such harmony - the billions of stars - when most men can barely go a minute without declaring war in their minds about someone they know.
