So, if I have a Leman Russ Squadron with a LRBT (range 72" and a Demolisher (range 24", and I fire both turret weapons, then the following occurs, as per the 'multiple blasts' rules:

Because the BT is closer to the target, I measure the range. Say, it's 70 inches. So I place the large blast and roll for scatter. Then I roll the scatter die, and place the demolisher blast next to the BT blast in the direction indicated (or in the direction of my choice, in case of 'hit').

Wait a second, I just potentially fired a Demolisher >84". wtf?

go ahead, read the rulebook. it says that the scatters-off-the-first rule applies 'when a unit is firing multiple blasts', not 'multiple blasts of the same type'.

You are thinking of barrage weapons.

No, if you actually read the rules, that's the procedure for 'firing multiple blasts in a salvo'. Barrages follow the same rules, but that's besides the point.

I think you are forgetting the need to measure range to target, etc.

The Demolisher could be placed with the Battlecannon shot, if it were in range.

Page 30 Multiple Blasts:

"If a unit is firing more than one blast weapon (for example, four Space Marine Devastators fire four frag missiles at an enemy), resolve each shot, one at the time, as described above, determing and recording how many hits are scored by each blast marker."

So, you roll for scatter for each blast marker as normal, as described on page 30, "Blast". The part you are referring to where the blast markers touch each other, only works for Barrage weapons, which are described on page 32, "Barrage". Since neither a Battle Cannon, nor a Demolisher cannon are "barrage", you don't get to use the barrage rules for them.

Also, on Page 17 Check Range:

"Any model that is found to be out of range of all of the models he can see in the target unit misses automatically - his shots simply do not reach."

So, if your Leman Russ unit fired at a unit 70" away, the Demolisher cannon would automatically miss.

False. The rules clearly state that you measure for the first shot, then simply roll to scatter the others based on the first one. Check it if you like. It's the same way that a blast can end up more than maximum distance, if it scattered there.

Are you just playing Devil's Advocate? The part where you're reading about the blasts scattering off the first one are on page 32, right? Look at the top of the page: BARRAGE

Where you should be looking is on page 30 under: Multiple Blasts

". . .resolve each shot, one at a time, as described above. . ."

So, we look "above" and we find the next heading: Blasts

Under which it says:

"Next check if the shot has landed on target. If the hole at the centre of the marker is beyond the weapon's maximum range, the shot is an automatic miss and the marker is removed."

The Leman Russ squadron is not firing barrages. It is firing multiple blasts. Barrage weapons have an entry that say "Barrage" on them. So, here's how it would work:

My Leman Squadron sees your squad 70" or so inches away. Since you resolve each blast in a multiple-blast shot as an individual blast, I lay down my marker for the Battle Cannon. I measure distance, then I roll scatter and 2D6. Hit! Woo!

Now, I lay down the blast marker for my Demolisher. I measure range. Oooh, 70" is about 46" too much! Automatic miss! (as described straight from the rulebook).

I have. Thats why my demolishers have never shot 72 inches.

Thus I leave you with a reaction image

Not really off to a good start here are ya? Maybe when people take the time to read and quote the rules for you, you can take the time to actually read them yourself.

Puma referenced the same rules I did, btw.

People will be less inclined to help you in the future if your posting style continues. Gwar is the only one around here that can pull it off, and I'm still not sure how he gets away with it.
