Hey here everyone.
Well I have been playing 40k since 1992 but in various waves of on and off.
Its been a couple of years now since I seriously was into it. On a whim however several of my mates have decided to organise an annual games and general catch up weekend.
A great chance top catch up and give vent to berdy vices we can never quite kick tongue.gif
Anyway unlike a few of my mates who are dusting off old armies I have decided to start fresh.
My last project was a 13th Company but having always been a fan of the slightly more sinister I have decided to build a Slaanesh themed Chaos Marine and Daemon army.
I have finished my first 12 marines.
By the way the idea of this army is not to have a mutated bunch of marines. I am actually going for a sleek evil elegance that I think is lacking in the evil races of 40k.
Sorry for the quality but my camera screen is stuffed so im shooting "blind" so to speak. Will fix this soon.
I have bid on some of the Gen 4 (metal) Daemonettes which I am very much hoping to be my next addition.
Cheers.
Hope you like the colour scheme.
I am not a great painter but I am happy with these based on my personal skill level.

Your color scheme is awesome. I love these guys. Your painting is pretty solid too. Here's my two suggestions:
1. Use Badab Black wash on your guns. It really gives depth to metallics, and will make your guns look as awesome as your Marines.
2. Base your models! These guys look so cool but the bland black bases really rob them of the opportunity to look cooler. Some dark, cool grey rubble could look really nice.

Yeah they will be based. So not 100% finished.
I was thinking grey rubble as well.
I cant see these guys skipping through pretty green fields.

Nice. The white faces are vaguely reminiscent of KISS, but that's not meant as a criticism. The advice on black washing the weapons was good. A few layers of delvan mud works wonders on gold too

Ok Being out of the game for a while now I have found there are a lot of new colours and a lot of old favourites gone.
So the badab black and devlan mud... are they both citadal colours?

Oh and I meant to add, the photo's dont do this justice, but thats not gold.
Its dwarf bronze.
Ill get some better pictures done but I love this colour.
In my opinion it gives a hint of what might have been gold but is a slightly corrupted version of it...
I also think the Dwarf bronze colour just has a solid warrior feel to it. Elegant and attractive, but not completely ceremonial. As in "yes we are pretty but we will still kick arse"!

Like the others said, looking good! The paint is looking a tad thick on your champion's helmet. Either use lots of thin layers, or use a grey underneath the white. It'll mean you'll need less layers of white, reducing the chance of a grainy finish.

Hello MaliceInTheLookingGlass I really like your scheme however i do agree with TheMaliciousMushroom try watering down your paints a little i think you will find that they go on a little eaiser and dont look as think. Also my i suggest a wash of badab black on the gold trims , i think this would look really good on your scheme and give the gold a little bit of defenition. Please take a look at my Iron warriors they have gold trims washed with badab black and i think they look ok.
Hope this is helpful ~UnDeAd~

Yeah I agree dont worry.
To be honest (and this is a little embarassing) this was more of an undercoating muck up.
When I under coated with citadal black spray paint for some reason 1 batch (3 minitures) the paint didnt dry nicely. Little bubbles and just bumpy bits were left.
Anyway the squad leader was one of these guys and the helmet was the worse effected.
Any tip on why this happens?
Do you hold the spray cans really close or a bit away.
I am always a bit paranoid of over spraying them thus filling in details...
Advice here would be appreciated.
I will def look at some washes as using washes is as of yet un known to me.
Cheers.

Malice,
I usually hold the spray can anywhere from 6 - 12" away from the model and spray in short bursts. Good work on these guys! I always get excited for chaos projects as they were my very first army back in second edition. I look forward to seeing more of your work!

Washing is an easy way to give depth and age to surfaces, but is especially easy and successful on metallics. In my experience, black wash works best on gunmetal, and dark brown on gold and probably bronze.
Advice on spraying- avoid spraying when the air or can are particularly cold, and avoid spraying outdoors when it's humid or windy- i know from personal experience that this heavily cuts down on the days on which you can spray! Also, if it doesn't go well you can strip models with dettol disinfectant and try again. When you've got good conditions, shake the can thoroughly, and keep it about a foot away from the models. Start your spraying 'run' from slightly to the side of the first model in the line in case there are spatters, sweep quite quickly along the line, and stop. The most important thing in using spray paints is to apply them in thin layers for best results. Better to take your time over this stage so that your paintwork looks its best.
Hope that helps

Sorry to the fluffies but I like this mini.
I swapped a mate a Eldar Scorpian Exarch for Ahriman.
I will be using this mini as a Sorcerer in my Slaanesh Army.
(I am still relying on my I phone here so sorry).
Also for those that suggested Badab black, ill be grabbing this tomorrow so will run over all the Boltgun metal and Dwarf Bronze work with this and see how we go.

Nice looking; try flesh wash over bronze/gold instead of black though; it'll give a nicer finish.
As for the spraying incident: did you shake your paint thoroughly enough? That's usually the reason; either that or your nozzle was filthy. I usually spray mine from 8-12" distance, making lots of passes to get a nice even coat.

Ok this is my Dreddy so far.
Clearly a generic loyal space marine drednaught but I have added some Chaos motifs etc and as the traitor chapters were loyal at some point, I dont mind these sort of similaraties.
I have photographed him with one Marine to show the consistancy of the colour scheme. I think it works quite well on both.
I am contemplating attempting my first decent free hand paint work on the right hand plate of the dreddy. Maybe some sort of Succubus/Daemonette type figure.
Lots of work to do but I like how its coming along.

Admitidly these the paint could be thinner. However these piccies are making them look a lot "chunkier" than they actually are...
In real scale (as opposed to zoomed in like in the images) its far less apparant.
