Hello Dakka!

I'm just reading through the DH codex again and re-read the rules for the psychic power "word of the Emperor". I'm not sure how to understand the wording there...if successful, it forces enemy units trying to assault to do a check to see if they can, but what about a combat the Inquisitor is already locked in? If this enemy unit he is locked in combat with fails its check, are they not able to attack then? And, follow-up question: Is the inquisitor still able to attack those guys he is locked in combat with, although they are not allowed to strike at all?

This sounds like it could be rather powerful against low-LD units and I'm not sure about the last part. Can someone elaborate?

Thanks!

It affects all units attempting to charge the Inquisitor.

The unit that he was already engaged with in your example would be unaffected by the power, since they aren't charging that turn.

You have misread the power. It only affects enemies trying to assault the Inquisitor, it has NO effect on units already locked in combat with him.

Thanks for your quick reply! The German wording translates in the direction of "trying to attack", not "trying to charge", so there was some confusion for me in that.

I can see how that would be confusing...

Surely the German language has a word for "charge" that's separate from the word "attack." Sloppy translation for the win!

Oh, well in that case, It seems German Inquisitors are better than English ones.

Aye, they simply wrote "angreifen", which really is the basic word for "to attack". If they would've written "stürmen", which is the best translation for "to assault" I can think of, there would've been no need for this thread.

Well, thanks again, clears something up for me.

Surely this power is now useless since units do not "charge" any more?

I guess this is why GW Germany has an editor now. (so they now get better written rules than the english)
