Decided to pick up the latest Miniature Mentor video tutorial yesterday to see what their stuff is like. Turns out it is incredibly good and very insightful, even for an old hand at painting and modelling like me!

Anyway, I decided to put together a bit of a review of the Todd Swanson - Plague Lord Festus tutorial on my blog for those who are interested.

Cheers,

Dante

I have the subscription to MM which has allowed me to download all their tutorials and I must say they are all very impressive and cover a wide variety of techniques. The discussions of methodology are very useful in learning why and not just how. For a new painter like me they've helped me understand things that are difficult to just read about.

Can I suggest skipping forward 10 years to the age where you don't really care about what people say on the internet. Studies show that it decreases your anger about life in general by 37%. - Flashman

I also have the subscription and so far I've loved it... still downloading festus.

Has anyone noticed and is no one bothered by the fact that they totally misrepresent what they are selling? First you watch the videos on the same monitor and have their website open. You'll see that the colors are nowhere near the same - they've been totally photoshopped. They never finish a miniature even when they say it will go from start to finish. And then most of the time they don't even work on the same miniature that the picture shows. That would be fine except no where do they mention this in the description. They make it sound and look like you will see exactly that miniature with exactly that paint job from start to finish. But the quality of the video is excellent. So I don't understand why they have to be so underhanded and blatantly misleading.

Hmm yeah I know what you mean, it was a little jarring at first. I have the subscription so I am long pasted that fact now though... and I love the videos regardless.

So how many videos do they have and how often do they update? I haven't seen any updates in a while, at least it doesn't look like there are any new updates. I remember about a six months or so ago they still had most of the same ones on their products page.

Am I missing something?

As to the number you'll have to go to their site and investigate. They don't update very often at all. The last one I know about was in August - speed painting by David Thomas. Again - totally misrepresented by their description on site. The video is excellent - I mean, fantastic. But it just leaves such a bad taste that they showed pictures of minis that had nothing to do with what was in the video. There was a recent newsletter that listed 3 more videos that will be out "soon" but there's no date. I don't know what "soon" is to them.

Well it seems that a lot of the time the advertisement art shows the model that the particular painter is known for... or won an award for, or even is just a perfect representation of his/her style etc...

I don't really find it that offensive.
