Went to my gaming club at the weekend and ended up having near enough a 6,000 point game against a Chaos Space Marine player and a Ork player. The Ork player wasn't running a normal list, he instead took 2 Stompas and 20 Ork Boyz in each along with a Big Mek with a KFF. Now the Ork list was 1,800 but he was using the apocalypse size templates which could take out mass of my tanks in one blast!

I didn't take any pictures or made any notes as I wasn't expecting to do a report on it. But after my victory by beating both players I thought I'd share my experience!

We had the game as kill points and each structure on the Stompa is worth a kill point. I luckily rolled to go first. Once both other players had deployed I got a plan in my mind. I was going to split my army in half; the melta veterans in the valkyries would use the scout move and close in on both stompas, they would be supported by the two hellhounds so the orks can be burned to bits and a company command squad would back them up to issue orders. A unit of flamer veterans support the command squad.

The next part of my plan was to use the single unit of melta vets in the chimera, the two demolishers, the battle tank and the other CCS with flamer veteran support to go after the chaos space marine army. With the melta vets I'd pop the land raider or use the demolishers. The demolishers were also targetting some obliterators in cover.

So, I used my scout move and turbo boosted the valkyries. Then in my movement phase I moved everything into position, though shock I forgot to move the second valkyrie! First turn saw my claiming a structure point on one stompa and killing a obliterator with a demolisher after it failed a cover save and wiped out by instant death.

I took a few looses in the first turn. The CCS going towards the chaos army lost their chimera, flamer vets supporting the other CCS chimera lost their chimera too. And the valkyrie which was by a stompa which just lost a structure point got cut in half by the stompa's chain fist - strangely the ork player need not shoot my melta totting guards men.

Next turn I bbq'd the big mek, who strangely was in a ruin on his own and had no form of armour or cybork body - not that armour mattered against hellhounds inferno cannon. I left the big mek with 1 wound left. The stompa I originally attacked I popped with mass melta fire thanks to the near by CCS's order for Bring it down! The orks inside took serious hit, they failed morale and ran off the table - that's another 4 kill points for me, one for the ork mob and 3 from the stompa. Another obliterator was killed and one wound, I decided to get the flamer veterans out the chimera and the nearby CCS issue first rank fire order, it worked, mostly leaving the solo obliterator with only 1 wound.

I lost the flamer veterans squad when a greater daemon appeared and assaulted them and the obliterator killed 5 of them with a flamer. My CCS by the blown up stompa get popped out their transport. Not bad this turn.

On turn 3 the CCS out the transport issued bring it down again on the melta squad at the foot of the other stompa, they claimed a structure point but also immobilised it. The CCS wiped out the big mek in cover and the other CCS issued bring it down to itself and caused 3 wounds on the greater daemon, leaving it with just one. The melta vets in the chimera bailed out and fired at the land raider, but only scored weapon destroyed and immoblised.

In this turn one of my demolishers was blown up by a meltagun shot from the solo obliterator. The melta vets were wiped out by the possessed which were inside the land raider and all but one melta veteran in front of the remaining stompa were slaughtered.

On turn 4 I put down that greater daemon with plasma gun fire from bring it down rank again. The battle tank and valkyrie blasted the possessed as well, but 3 still remaining. The hellhound squad bbq'd a entire unit of lesser daemons which had assaulted the last unit of orks as the chaos space marine player killed the last stompa, the orks were wiped out.

In this turn I lost the second demolisher other than that life was good! lol.

Turn 5 I finished that obliterator off with plasma gun fire but the possessed hung in there. A unit of chaos space marines had ventured out of cover so I laid the smack down on them with the battle tank and hellhound, I lost one hellhound as I immoblised it moving through terrain :( . The chaos marine hung in there though.

The battle tank got immobilised and that was all my looses if I remember right.

Sixth turn now the possessed got killed by plasma gun rapid fire from the CCS. The chaos marines toughed it out with 2 remaining.

I took a few looses on my last remaining CCS which killed the possessed but I hung in there. The hellhound did lose all it's weapons from a melta shot and power fist assault from those 2 remaining chaos space marines.

On the last turn I got the last flamer veteran squad which had been in terrain the entire time into the remaining valkyrie and turbo boost it around, this would protect them and give the valkyrie a 4+ cover save. The hellhound I pulled back 18" and hid it behind a ruin blocking LOS to it.

In the end I killed those chaos space marines with plasma fire earning me my last kill point. I did lose the CCS in the end, but they more than paid for their points.

I won the game with 16 kill points. The chaos player had 13 I think and no idea how many the ork player got, I think roughly about 4.

So that's how you kill several stompas and chaos space marines!
