looking into making my 2k list, and was wondering about Chaos chariots.

Imo, they look nice on paper, with those impact hits being able to cause lots of wounds, but i wanted to know from more experienced people if they are as good as they look!

Thanks for any help.

They hit pretty hard, and two of them with Mark of Slaanesh still cost less than a unit of knights with a magic banner. I usually prefer to use two at a time, since that way one can potentially flee a charge from an enemy cav unit and let the other one get the counter charge. But I've also had decent results running one or three. They can theoretically make a really nasty character mount, too, but I haven't tried it yet.

They are very vulnerable to cannon and to the stupid DE stars + strength poison combo (Dumbest. GW. Ruling. Ever.). If you expect to face that combo, or cannon often, I wouldn't bother taking chariots.

Only 1 DE player at my FLGS, and i wouldnt say hes experienced :p i have also heard about running 2 is best, but i run a tzeentch themed army, so marking them is going to be difficult! But the counter charging does sound effective!

I usually field 2 chariots, unmarked, and they do exactly what I need them to do: smash into the opponents prime unit and pin it for a turn or two before I can get my finishers in there. The D6+1 Impact hits @ S5, and the 4 S5 Halbred WS6 attacks and the 2 horse attacks can take out a rank bonus or two in the opponents unit and even tip the balance as to who outnumbers who. It can also feth up their casting too if they have a mage. Against HE, it can be praticularly brutal as all of your hits wound on a 2, except for the horses which get him on a 3. Even with ASF, the impact hits go first, so you can get in on an elite unit and really tear him a new gak hole.

The key to the chariots is to have 2 and work them in tandem with a good solid Infantry unit and a flanking unit like Marauder Horsemen. If you can pin one of his units with a Spawn and hit with a Chariot on the flank, especially with a character (US 5), you will be laughing so hard the gods will hear yo deep in the warp. Chances are, in that case, you can blow through that unit and hit something beyond and engage them in combat in the very same turn.

Chariots are worth it, even unmarked. Esthecially, just make them look like Tzeentch marked chariots, but inform your opponent that they are not marked. Most of my army is total Khorne colours, but in game play only a few units are marked. More boots on the ground can win you games.

I LOVE chariots..love love love them and chaos chariots are about as hard as they come. They will break alot of units on the charge (ones with less then 2-3 static ress anyway) and bigger units with maruader horsemen on the flank.

indeed, I used two Khorne chariots in my tournament list. On the charge each chariot had:

d6 str4 impact hits
4 str4 horse attacks
6 str5 chaos warrior attacks

Also, a trick a learned earlier on these same forums, if you put a character on a chariot it becomes US5 and you can deny ranks with it. For the points I think its a swell chaos lord delivery system.

You mean d6 S5 impact hits, and 2 S4 horse attacks. The mark of khorne doesn't give the horses extra attacks.

The Mark of Khorne didn't used to, but now mounts benefit from rider psychology, thus the horses are frenzied also.

And just to clarify, it's d6+1 impact hits.

Warhammer FAQ states that the Mark of Khorne is an exception, as only the rider has the mark.

Though I do wonder .....it says "Hordes of Chaos", so maybe that was because back then that was the case, and now that it's "Warriors of Chaos", things are different?

...yeah just read it. Hordes of chaos specified mounts didn't get it. New book doesn't. Khorne chariots ahoy!

I have never had one hit my line... but I do focus an innordinate amount of firepower to kill them (and I don't have cannons)
