Me and some friends have been playing games and ive been hearing different rulings on this. Ok shooting phase, My one unit with melta's shoots and blows up a rhino. 2nd i then choose a different unit and fire at the units that spilled out. Friends have told me yes you can do this, and then some say no you can not because all shooting happens at once. But when i read the 40k rulebook there is no mention of not being able to do that, it states that you can choose things in a firing order. SO essentially i fire with one unit. BOOM it explodes- I fire at what pops out with another unit, it doesnt seem like i broke the rules. If anyone knows the correct ruling for this please let me know. thanks much

All firing from the same unit is considered to be simultaneous. Other than that, shooting happens in the order that you choose.

As Will noted, all fire from a given unit is simultaneous. So if you have a unit of Space Marines with a missile launcher shooting at a Rhino, and the missile launcher destroys it, the rest of the bolters in THAT firing unit cannot shoot at the passengers after they get out. Those shots went at the Rhino (even if they couldn’t hurt it).

OTHER units are, however, perfectly free to shoot at the now-disembarked passengers, as p.67 tells us. Units fire in sequential order in 40k.

At the risk of being pedantic, I just want to ensure that people are not looking in the wrong place. The note on page 67 reiterates that a single unit firing is simultaneous, but does not really cover whether an entire army's firing is considered simultaneous. I originally looked on page 67 for rules support as well, but found that particular section did not clearly answer the OPs question.
