I acquired the front half of an AOBR Dreadnought in a bitz trade and thought that since I couldn't build a complete model it would make a nice themed objective marker for my son's Ultramarines:

Man thats awesome! I'm so stealing that idea and making a fallen Crimson Fist Dread. Only thing i would do different is i wouldn't "waste" that assault cannon (there way too good to not use if you've got them )

Thanks. We are hoping to play a campaign this Summer and I want to make three themed objectives for each of us to use in addition to the hand full of generic ones we already have.
I'm thinking some downed marines or a destroyed rhino would also be cool (I think i have enough bitz to build a burned out blown apart rhino(again I don't have the whole kit)
And I would have used the mult-melta arm but I couldn't find one, and his dreads already have assault cannon arms so i figured I'd just go with it...

I think the number of holes you put in it is a bit excessive considering the armour, but it's a really nice piece. For extra internets, i'd have modeled the front of the sarcophagus coming off, and a crippled marine covered in wires on the inside, still just about alive (hence the recovery)

Very cool! Personally I would make some bullet holes in the sarcophagus to really show that the marine inside is dead. Otherwise, great!

Maybe the Dreadnought is simply immobilized, hence why they need to make the recovery. Also if you do intend to remove the sarcophagus use a skeleton model instead, because that's all marines in dreadnoughts are if you've read the fluff.

This.
The idea is that he is still alive: hence it's value as an objective. Automatically Appended Next Post: Million wrote:I think the number of holes you put in it is a bit excessive considering the armour, but it's a really nice piece.
That was intentional as a visual cue: to exaggerate the damage so that visually it is very clear when it is on a table(amidst two armies) that it is a terrain/objective marker and not simply a model that is broken off it's base, etc. Automatically Appended Next Post: Mr-_-Flidd wrote:That's really good man!

Did you read the post, or just look at the pictures?
He said he got it in a trade, but that it was only the FRONT HALF of the model. Without the back half, he couldn't do anything with it.

That's really cool, actually. The only thing I'd change is the position of the assault cannon - having it stick straight up looks odd. If it was at more of an angle towards it's feet it would look more natural. Pretty ace work overall though.

"If you really want to know what it was like, to fight in the air in the great War, then go up to someone you have never met and who has never done you the slightest harm and pour a two-gallon tin of petrol over them. Then apply a match, and when they are nicely ablaze, push them from a fifteenth-floor window after first perhaps shooting them a few times in the back with a revolver. And be aware as you are doing these things that ten seconds later someone else will quite probably do them to you. This will exactly reproduce... the substance of First World War aerial combat and will cost your country nothing. It will also avoid the necessity of ten million other people to die in order for you to enjoy it."
