Subject: Battle Mission Questions?

As more and more people play GW's Battle Missions, a few questions have come up that I would like ask for rules clarification. For objectives hold such as in the third Space marine mission all-around defense, are troops the only ones that can claim the object for both the defender and the attacker (enemy). Or can only troops from the defend team hold the objective and the attacker (enemy) can have anyone of his units claim the objective. The victory conditions doesn't clarify, my take is that the BRB rules for missions take over but I could be wrong. I read all the conditions and modifiers and nothing says that troops are the only one that can claim an objective. What is your call on this? I ran in this when playing a 2 vs 2 with necrons and space puppies holding the center and me and another tau players were the enemies. My tau partner said that anyone of our units could hold the objective but only the defenders troops can hold the objectives. I had some objections but couldn't find anything to clarify. Our opponents weren't ok with this and since we couldn't find any ruling we just decided on going back the BRB and say that only troops can hold the objective.
Thanks

Correct. The Battle Missions book defines in each mission how the standard set up is altered. Anything not specified is meant to be assumed that the normal rules from the BGB apply. (Why do people call it the BRB, anyway? The WHFB book is red, not the 40k book...)

Big Rule Book (as opposed to the SRB or the BfBR book - Small Rule Book or Battle for Black Reach book).
It used to be BGB or BBB (Big Grey Book or Big Bl**dy Book).
