Okay I made a statment in the Burna+BW thread about not being allowed to change the shape/position/orientation of things like Legs on a Walker, rollas on a wagon, etc.
Basically changing the footprint of a model midgame is a no-no iirc. It'd would allow for things like moving X inches tucking legs in to hide behind something. 'Fitting' through gaps because the 'lwgs could be articulated in x or y fashion so on so forth.

Now I haven't been able to find RAW on this - I haven't had time to look properly but the biggest hint I cold find is "If a walker does not have a base (like the Chaos
Defiler), measure to and from its hull (including its legs and other limbs)" page 77, which would mean that one is changing the dimensions of a model in-game.

Again I'm sure this is not allowed! Help

I believe it would be considered "modelling for an advantage"........................

One of the other responses to attempting to change the shape of a model during the game is to state that there is no rule allowing it, so it isn't permitted.

For instance, the vehicle shooting rules specify moving the weapons (if possible) to determine line of sight. In contrast, there is no rule allowing one to adjust the position of the legs on a Defiler while moving the model.

Exactly - 40k is permissive, and nothing gives you permission to change the shape of a model in general, so you cannot.

Nothing even gives you permission to convert models either, so keep that in mind before trying something like this

Mmm, but the problem is when your playing a 'rational' yet daft fellow who insists they can (I haven't played this person since ) It's hard to prove if you guys know what I mean. The fact that " built-up areas, dense forests, narrow tunnels, and so on. " and "through densely packed terrain with ease" is in a walkers description doesn't help, also it's not forbidden on page 11 (movement) best we get is "through a gap between friendly models that is smaller than its own base (or hull) size." and the ever golden 'but I'll put the back how they were'

So from this situation it would seen to talk them down would involve using the page 77 quote - for the reference to legs=base and page 34 "may not pass through gaps narrower than their base" But this second point is only with respects to assaulting, I can't find anything forbidding it during movement.

So yeah being pedantic, I know how it should work but can't find something to use that will shut their argument down!

Sigh

passing through gaps is related to other models bases and impassable terrain.

moving into/through/out of area terrain the shape of your model doesnt matter unless it has been declared impassible.

of course as he is changing the model on a vehicle it also means he is affecting his own range to measure and shoot.

Yes yes very nice, nothing that hasn't been said either in my orgianl post, someone else or is unrelated to the issue at hand. Now can you address the question and help us all find a way to stop dopey buggers pulling this stuff "Because I didn't glue it's legs in place."?

The best advice anyone can give you if you don't like how the other player is playing, whether the thing you don't like is changing the shape of a model, putting a skimmer on a different size flying base, or fudging movements, is to find a responsible adult. If neither of the players are currently acting as responsible adults, or are unable to find someone else who is capable of filling in as a responsible adult, the next best advice is that both of the players should put their toys away and sit quietly for a while.

There you go, problem solved.

I approve and fully support this idea.

Already done that, covered that fact in the orginal post too. Now the issue is I don't want to have another person who it will be forever simpler to just not play
