Does anyone like them? are they any good?

I was thinking about buying the plastic termies again and maybe making them all lightning claws? i hate the LC's from SM does anyone think the mutated claws would work from the possesed set? or does anyone know of a good US site that sells the lords LC on the cheap?

TH/SS are ridiculous. Basically they are the hardest unit to kill, hit the hardest in closecombat and are relatively cheap. 3++ is broken and pairing them with a Chaplain in a LR means 20" charge and anything you are fighting is going to die.

I dropped 5 plasma cannons on a squad last night and only killed 2. Frustration to the max.

Stick these guys in a LR and you should be good. It is the only half reliable to get them up near the enemys lines. As long as you explain what they are no one should have any problems with the possessed claws. I bought the metal LCs from GW and Dremeled the terminus badge of the one shoulder pad and they look just fine. As for the lord LCs i havent found any for cheap the cheapest i found was $3.50 for one set.

I think he's talking about CHAOS Space Marines (CSM) and not CODEX: Space Marines (C:SM).
TH/SS does not come into the CSM equation.

For a combat squad you really need the LR, which means you need to essentially build a list around them...though they themselves are not that great at their job, esp. with the lack of force multipliers or actual suppport for them outside of more muscle in the form of characters.

As for converting... you could try Plascard/Card and regular marine arms and fiddle with that.

As dedicated assault units they suck - even with them all as champions (or MoK, or both) and twin claws you struggle to put out enough hurt.

They aer better as shooting with some combat ability - combi plas / melta, small unit size, chainfist.

Ha yea I'm slowed.

I like CSM terminators, I usually run a squad of 4 with 3 combi melta, a heavy Flamer and a chainfist. Sometimes just 3 with 2 combi melta and a HF. They work well when you give them a specific target but they aren't that versatile.

NOT competitive? boooo i didin't want to hear that! i really love lightning claws and i wanted some assault termies! maybe a MOK, MON or MOS would beef them up? thrown in a lord or abby? would DS them be an option? i already base my army around my oblits haha.

Then I suggest going 'count as' and they you can actually get 'assault terminators'.

ICON, these guys purchase icons and not marks.

IoS is situational.
IoN is expensive for not a lot of models and doesn't help vs. anti-termy weapons.
IoK is the one to go for.

The issue is, the rest of the list is heavly focused on short ranged fire fights and combat already, complimentint the list with more CC is not strong IMO and creates unbalance in the army while going the 'eggs in basket' route.
While if you suppliment the list with termicides, they do a great job of shooting stuff and then being annoying.

Throwing a lord and abby is a bad idea, for their sakes , in addition, the issue is not offensive power, but just how they fit the whole army list.

Certainly they can function in the capacity you want them to, just be sure to pick up the slack of tank cracking elsewhere (an no Oblits are not cost effective tank crackers at >12".

DSing Combat squad...IMO hell no. But I'm sure you can make it work for you if you want it to.

I've been thinking of making a 5 man squad of LC Chaos Termies myself. DS'ing them seems a waste as they won't be able to shoot or assault once they arrive and that means they'll be useless til your next round. So you'll have to have a LR for these puppies. That's going to mean at least 500 points (that's a guess off the top of my head btw).

For me, the main issue with Chaos assault Terminators is delivery. Unlike Codex Marines, you only have 1 Land Raider to pick and it has 1 less spot then its Codex Cousin. This means you can only deploy a max of 5 Terminators to the target. Coupled with a weaker Land Raider (no PotMS) and you have a unit just doesn't work as well as you'd like. Frankly Berzerkers are a better unit to toss in a Land Raider.

Having said all that, its a decent option just not a truly competitive one.
