Most of us have access to the codex now, so instead of postulating about the end of 40k as we know it, let's discuss how things breaks down on the actual list making level.

What are your thoughts on the subject, if you plan to play them, what kinda lists are you thinking about?

Current Armies: Blood Angels, Imperial Guard (40k), Skorne, Retribution (Warmachine), Vampire Counts (Fantasy)

AV13/Razor spam...cause there's like 3 lists in the army section with alot of comments of uberness.

I'm looking forward to...well not really... to the same old mass Jump Packers...as people in my area have been running that and will be some time til they adjust.

If I start, it'll be Bikers covering assault squads with only the AV13 side of the armor spam.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

I think the mass jump packers is a great list with the new book. Descent of angels and meltas being available to assault marines makes this all possible.

Being able to drop down and literally demech your opponent in one turn, and then still get cover saves (shield of sanginius) and feel no pain (sanguinary priests) makes you ridiculously durable when you have 60 jump marines on the table, toting a silly amount of special weapons.

My local gamesworkshop has it on display... For some reason they got it really really early, and the manager has been flaunting it willnilly-- lucky for me I guess. lol

I actually dont see the av 13 spam being all that amazing. I mean yeah it will be good. But with everyone so used to everyone else being meched up. All the tanks on the field really wont be THAT but of a deal since most of us already know how to deal with lots of armor. But it will still be good. It just wont make anyone cry like some new cheese lists do.

So here's some lists I can see:

Razorbacks, Preds, shooting list w/librarians for HQ. Enemy's who get past the shooting are rewarded by getting to fight really good CC troops (BA assault squads w/SHP).

Jetpack swarm: between vanguards, death company, honor guard, and sanguinary guard, along with basic assault troops the Blood Angels have like 4 different elite jump pack units, and DoA helps them out. I could see a nonmech jump pack swarm working alright, maybe with a token rhino wall.

Storm Raven Duo: I think this is a money list, take 2 Storm Ravens with the badass SHP augmented squad of your choice within, plus 2 furiosos, then season to taste with razorback troops.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

I plan on doing my old style of assault troop swarm, with a few tanks to back them up.
I have never been a big fan of tanks, i don't really know why... but i am just weird like that...
So, my basic plan of attack is to (this is just my old tatic i will not include anybody specail like Dante in this exsample as i do not much of him or anybody else...)

So, i set up my lascannon pred in the side where it can see most (depending on terrain) then i put my assault squads in pairs of 2. all 4 had 10 guyz in them. i wold try to move them down the sides of the bored, trying to keep out of the middle as that is where lots of stuff will probaly be shooting. Then, with the cover from my las pred, and my Baal class with AC also moving up the side, i would hope to converge on the enemy from the sides, All of my assault squad sarges had melta bombs, so they did have stuff agaist tanks...
Then i would drop my furiso in with a drop pod, hopefully landing behind cover. He would tear apart veichals/globs of infrantry....

So ya, that was my basic 1500 point army.... never played much 2000....
Haha, sorry for getting a little off topic, but hope this helped somebody
