Initial Deployment

Chaos Turn 1 : The missile havoc's light up the vet chimera, blowing it up and pinning the dumping veterans. The auto-cannon havocs fire on the ogryn chimera stunning it. Everything else moves up. A 1" run role on the slaanesh csm leaves them stuck out in the open. Daemon Prince lash's a squad of guard but not close enough for the possessed to get to them.
Chaos KP: 1 Imperial Guard KP: 0

Imperial Guard Turn 1 The punisher rev's up the field 12 inch's. The executioner moves up a bit to get a clear line of fire, and kills 9 out of 12 chaos space marines, they fail morale, and run 11 inch's back off the table. Shooting see's 3 of the possessed gunned down. The lashed squad tries to run away but only roll's a 1.
Chaos KP: 1 Imperial Guard KP: 1

There's just something missing out of this picture, oh yeah my CSM squad.

Chaos Turn 2: The possessed charge into a guard squad killing one, the guard kill a possessed ending in a tie. Daemon Prince lashes the company command squad forward and charges them, killing 3 but they pass morale. The berskers are just barely in range of the punisher and try to slap a couple of grenades on it but fail. The auto-cannons fail to get the ogryn chimera, and the heavy bolters kill off a few guard.
Chaos KP: 1 Imperial Guard KP: 1

The khorne berserkers assault the punisher. Hey it sounded like a good idea at the time.

Imperial Guard Turn 2: The executioner tries for a havoc squad because the plague marines are so spread out, only manages to kill a bolter marine. The punisher unloads into the berserkers killing 6 of them, the guard squad nearby kills another one, leaving the champion alive. The possessed kill 2 guard in hth and then the guard kill off the remaining 2 possessed. The platoon command squad charges into Daemon Prince and the company command squad, Daemon Prince kills 4 out of the pcs, the pcs breaks and run's but the company commander holds strong.
Chaos KP: 2 Imperial Guard KP: 2

Pask retaliates againts the foolish chaos space marines that tried to scratch the paint on his tank.

Chaos Turn 3:
The plague marines try to melta the executioner and fail, but the champion is barely in range and is able to wreck the executioner in hth with his fist (it was at about 5 1/2 inch's away, just a bit too close). The lone berserker charges into an infantry squad kills 3 and routes and run's down the squad. Daemon Prince kills off the regimental standard, but the company commander passes to refractor field saves, and stays in combat. The auto-cannon havoc's manage to immobilize the ogryn chimera. The missile havocs fire on the imperial guard squad that killed the possessed killing all but 2 who fail morale and runs away
Chaos KP: 5 Imperial Guard KP: 2

The company commander just won't die. In the background you can see the other two fleeing squads.

The berserker charges into the infantry squad and wipes them all out, now what ?!?

Imperial Guard Turn 3: The veterans move up and unleash volley's of lasgun fire, a couple of flamers and a melta gun on the berserker champion. He survives it all only to have Pask swivel his turret around and unleash a torrent of fire. The punisher does six wounds, so I proceed to roll them off one by one, 5 saves later and he's still up, unfortunately a 1 comes up on save number six and he dies. The ogryn are having a difficult time getting through the wreckage of the exectuioner (rolling a 1,2 and then double 1's) and can't assault the plague marines. Daemon Prince rolls to hit the company command and only gets 1 hit, which wounds, and the company command fails his save, Daemon Prince moves towards the vanquisher
Chaos KP: 6 Imperial Guard KP: 3

And now there are no more berserkers!

Chaos Turn 4:
The missile havocs try in vain to gun down the punisher. The heavy bolter havoc's and auto-cannon havocs gun down a guard squad. The plague marines blow up the chimera, but can't quite make it into assault range of the lord commissar so sit for another turn. Daemon Prince rips the main gun off of the vanquisher and stuns it.
Chaos KP: 8 Imperial Guard KP: 3

Imperial Guard Turn 4:
The ogryn charge into the plague marines (their ripper guns were completely ineffective). The ogryn drop 2 plague marines, the plague marines counter by putting 2 wounds on an ogryn drawing the combat. The punisher moves up and shoots into the havoc squad killing 3 of the missile launchers. Daemon Prince destroys the vanquisher. The storm troopers drop in but roll horribly only managing to kill one havoc.
Chaos KP: 9 Imperial Guard KP: 3

The ogryn, frustrated because their guns aren't killing anything rush in and drop 2 plague marines off the bat.

Chaos Turn 5:
Daemon Prince jumps over and snaps the head off of the lord commissar hiding behind the wreckage of the chimera. The plague marines manage to down an ogryn, but lose combat and they are down to 2 model's. The heavy bolter havoc's gun down the storm troopers.
Chaos KP: 11 Imperial Guard KP: 3

If you look closely behind the chimera you will see a Daemon Prince instead of a Commissar.

Imperial Guard Turn 5:
The punisher moves up and fires on the havocs again, killing all but the missile launcher who passes morale. The ogryn fail to kill anything, the plague marines cause 1 wound and the ogryn fail their morale check and fall back 2 inch's.
Chaos KP: 10 Imperial Guard KP: 3

Chaos Turn 6:
The autocannon havocs and heavy bolter havocs shred into the ogryn getting them down to one wound which is then finished off by the plague mariines.
Chaos KP: 11 Imperial Guard KP: 3

Imperial Guard 6:
The punisher guns down the last missile launcher havoc.
Chaos KP: 11 Imperial Guard KP: 4

My opponent made a stunning set of failed cover saves for the ogryn at the end failing something like 8 of 10 4+ cover saves.

Aftermath:
The game was a blast, the tide of chaos space marines trying to make it across the table against the hail of shots from the imperial guard was fun. If I hadn't of pulled that charge off on the executioner I think my opponent would have caused a lot more carnage.

It was surprising his line squads didn't have heavy weapons....in his kind of list he would have needed them!!!

Excellent report! Congrats on the win.

I hope the Guard player doesn't feel too bad, it looks like he's using everything he owns, correct?

Also, how did the Havocs with the 4 HBs work out for you? Being a Sisters player considering Retributors I am curious, since it's a very similar unit.

@freddieyu1: I keep telling them to put some in but they like to run the squads around on the table.

@slice of toast: It's pretty close to everything he's got, we've got a few newer, younger players showing up at the store, hence me taking a more fun, fluffy type of list. The heavy bolter havoc's did okay against guard, but in general I wish they were auto-cannons. I put them in the list because they are cheap but they usually don't do a whole lot during a game. I have a sister's army as well and I would love to be able to use my retributors, but I always end up going for the exorcists instead. Especially now that you can get heavy weapon squads as part of guard plattons. Haven't tried it yet, but it seems a really good way to spam some long range str 7 shots in the army.

Good looking report - without having a go at your army lists or anything, it's fine to play the army you collected rather than what the internet tells you is good, your IG opponent really should have blobbed up his infantry squads in this game. They have theat ability largely to control KP liability to a certain extent.

Whats scary? Space marines.

Whats scarier? Space marines who are posessessed.

Whats scariest? The guardsmen who WTF PWNed them in combat.

And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.

Well, Duh! Because they had a giant Mining ship. If you had a giant mining ship you would drill holes in everything too, before you'd destory it with a black hole

Nice batrep - I'm a fan of the codex grey colour scheme for IG.

@Slice of toast - I always take a unit of retributors with four heavy bolters for my sisters and can't recommend them highly enough. Just make sure they're in good cover because they will take an obscene amount of return fire...

While you sleep, they'll be waiting...

Have you thought about the Axis of Evil pension scheme?

Well done!

You rebounded well from the devastating initial volleys from the guard.

Though as others have said, your opponent should consider combining his infantry squads in games like this. Of course, he should find some points for a commissar first.

Again, good game though. Thanks for posting.

Well I normally would have recommended blobbing, however that really does give me a target for lash. Lashing forward the blob would be a surefire way of thinning it down and running it off the table. As it was my lash at the most could pull in one measly 60pt squad.
It's a tough decision on either side.

@Droofus: He does have the lord commisar in there which would let him blob them up, as long as I couldn't get to him, of course.

Good game, good report. My only hiccup with it was how bad both lists were. The IG list more so than the Chaos one.

Why did Chaos take the IoS but also take a Lascannon?

Why weren't the Berserkers or Plague Marines in Rhinos?

The Havoc squads were a nice touch, I don't see many people use them.

For the IG player, his Platoons should have the flamers and his Vets should have the meltas and plasma, because of their better BS.

He should have scratched those Ogryns and Stormies for anything better.

But this is just my two cents! Nice photos!

@Smashotron: We have a lot of new players showing up for game nights, so I'm trying to take downgraded lists. Most of the new players are younger and cash constrained so I don't want to just out money them on the table top. I give them list advice as we go on, but most of them can't just run out and buy 3 hellhounds/vendetta's etc. to add to their armies. Besides the Belakor model I use as a daemon prince every single model in that army is an original rogue trader model. So I try to just fit as many of them into the list as possible because I think the model's are cool, I like the thematic look of the horde of them trying to cross the table instead of 3-4 rhino's with some havocs behind them, I have other armies (and I always bring one I consider competative, and one more fluff based) for the competative side.

I can understand teaching new players and younger hobbyists. Plus, the "running horde of Chaos" is a more fair way to teach them, instead of just Mech rushing. Props to you!

I agree with Smash. Good on ya! Always a difficult job breaking in new players, particularly younger kids. It's nice to give them something crunchy to chew on, and something hard to show them that they need to be prepared.

No one kills more threads than me. Maybe I leave nothing else to say. Maybe my comments suck so hard people are left stunned. Who can say.

Nice report, thanks! Nice looking forces and terrain, and it's always nice seeing old-school traitor marines on the table! Nice to see reports with different kinds of lists too.
