So a long time ago I had started doing test paint schemes for a necron army. I had decided to go with a copper base for them. Other things happened and I never got around to it. I've recently started digging out the models and I go to the local shop to buy some copper paint and the following happens.

Check GW paint, no copper. What, huh, when did they get rid of copper. Walk over to the vallejo rack, well there's a slot right there for copper it's just empty, so I walk up to the counter and ask them to order me a bottle. I'm sorry vallejo doesn't make copper anymore. What the hell. Alright well privateer has a lot of metal jacks they must have copper, right, nope. Denied. What the heck is going on here.

If anyone out there still uses copper what line do they get it from?

Why do you have to have a paint called "copper?"
I would bet money that if P3 made a copper it would be completely different than a GW copper. Just get a metal color, and a brown, red or bronze, and mix them together. Judge the paint on how it looks rather than looking for a paint called "copper." If you're OK with mixing paint I suggest mixing tin bitz with something else, but if you don't want to mix anything try tin bitz drybrushed with something lighter as a highlight?

Warmaster, I guess you could buy the Vallejo or similar colour online?

I prefer to lay down the basecoats for models using a single paint colour. Not having to mix colours for the basecoat helps me make sure that the tone is consistent between models (although of course other colours get added for highlights and shading, but the simpler the mix the easier it is to replicate). Perhaps the OP feels the same and Tin Bitz isn't the right shade.

(Although I agree that, when you find a colour you like, it might not necessarily be called 'copper'.)

That's what I was trying to say. Just because it's not "copper" doesn't mean it doesn't look like copper.

I haven't had a bad experience with Folk Art Metallics. I don't like a few of their other colors (whites and browns specifically) but the metallics are fine.

I use this paint all the time. The copper is one of my favorite colors. It really is a good color, covers very well, and is ready right out of the tube.

Just stay away from the flesh colors. They dry with large flakes. Dilute it, and it is too thin. But, for $.99, their metalics are great.

I can still remember when a box of 30 Space Marines was $30.00. Now THAT'S old school! In fact, I started playing in the Rogue Trader days...yes, I am that old. Played Warhammer Fantasy for years before Rogue Trader even came out...

6,800 Pts. Ultramarines, 1,500 Pts. Deathwatch, 1,000 Pts. Black Templars, 1,000 Pts. Blood Ravens, 1,000 Pts. Emperors Children, 2,000 Pts. Word Bearers, 3,500 Pts. Eldar (Alaitoc or Biel-tan), 2,000 Pts. Tau, 2,000 Pts. Sisters of Battle, 999 Pts. of Thousand Sons, 1,000 Points Dark Eldar, 1,000 Points Adeptus Arbites, 1,000 Points Freebooters, 1,000 Points "Last Chancers", 1,000 Points Tyranids, 1,000 Points Necrons

2,500 Pts. Brotherhood, 2,000 Pts. Undead, 2,000 Pts. Sylvan Kin Elves, 2,000 Pts. Empire of Dust, 3,000 Pts. Orcs with Goblin Allies

I think Plaid is just the manufacturer, folk art is the paint line. but I belive they have a "Plaid" line of paint, and it is not good at all. the fold art line is much better (at least the metallics are). and thier Pure Black is really good too. hope this helped.

Sounds to me like the good people at your LGS don't know what they're talking about.

Vallejo DOES still make Copper. It's in their model color range (International number 999 or US number M176). They also have an alcohold based copper (International number 797 or US number M218).

They also STILL make Hammered Copper in their Game Color range.

You can find it here: http://www.thewarstore.com/modelcolors166_220.html

Or here for the Game color range: http://www.thewarstore.com/VallejoGameColorsPageI.html

Hope that helps.

Now go yell at your LGS clerk for their poor customer service.

Vallejo still makes a copper in the VGC line which are clones of GW paints. It's Hammered Copper 059. They even have Patina paint if you fancy some weathering called Verdigris Glaze 096 also in the Game Color line.
