Hey guys,

So I was playing my mate yesterday. He was using SW wolf cavalery. My oblits were in a building. His plan was to charge my Obluts by going up a couple of levels to get to them. A seemingly knowledgeable watcher stated that beasts can't go up stairs/levels of buildings. Is that actually true?

Short answer (because I don't have my rulebook at work to quote pg numbers): Yes

EDIT: I answered your beast question, but I can't verify if cavalry has the same issue. Might want to check that yourself in the rulebook. Actually come to think of it why aren't you simply reading the beasts rules for this answer? It is like one page long and is perfectly clear on this issue. It states it in plain text.

Beasts and Cavalry follow the exact same rules.

Yeah I read page 54 and it says nothing about whether beasts or cavalry can or cant go up levels in buildings. Maybe its in the FAQ...

There you have it. It doesn't say they can, so they cannot.

Buildings do not have levels. They function as transport vehicles and only one unit of infantry may enter them.

So I assume you mean ruins.

Only infantry, jump infantry, jetbikes, monstrous creatures and walkers may move on the upper levels of a ruin as per page 83 of the rulebook.

In one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 6", kill a few guys with his flamer, assault 6", kill two more guys with his bayonet, flee 12", regroup when assaulted, react 6", kill one more guy with his bayonet and then flee another 12".
So in one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 42" and kill more than 5 people. At the same time a Chimera at top speed on a road can move 18"...

Cool, thanks Gwar.

Yeah it was area terrain ruins with several levels so the fact that Beasts/Cavalry move like Infantry would suggest that they could enter and walk up the Ruin levels in order to assault the Oblits.

I'm not sure this is quite that clear cut. I don't think the list on lvl refers to unit types, rather than movement modes. And cavalry and beasts are not listed among the unit types that can enter ruins higher levels. I've always played it so that infantry can hide safely from beasts/cavalry in the higher levels of a ruin. This has caused me major tactical challenges a few times in the last tyranid codex where hormagants were beasts.

I would believe they are talking about unit types. I think if they were talking about movement modes, they would say "Only models that move like bladda bladda blah".

Sorry, that is incorrect. They list UNit Types, not how those unit types move. Therefore ONLY those unit types have permission to move up from the ground floor.

Excellent, Thank you all for your wisdom. I'll be placing my Blits above ground floor from now to keep away from his pesky cavalry.

Just remember they have to be up MORE than one flight, as you dont have to get into btb contact in ruins, you can engage the floor above you.

BTW do you go to spiky? I notice your location is reading. I'm Rob, the chaos khorne player who still thinks I should have units of 8 bezerkers....

I might know Jen, David by face but not by name. Sounds good though. I'll try and get down there and the campaign certainly sounds like fun to me.
