Hi everyone - not sure if this proposed rule was brought up earlier, but I figured it was worth trying out. My main "beef" with plasmaguns in 40k is that the chances a plasmagun will out right kill the person using it is way too high. I can only imagine how training sessions for troopers using one would go when they're all dead after firing say 15 shots each. Sure the gun can get so hot that it would melt things after firing too often, but seems idiotic that the user would continue to hold that weapon long enough for them to melt. My suggestion would be to keep the rule as is (on a roll of 1 the weapon "Gets Hot"), but instead have the trooper drop the gun and be downgraded to using a sidearm (las/bolt pistol/whatever) for the remainder of the game if they fail their armor save. If one wants they could add the rule the trooper can attempt to pick up the gun after cooling say on a 4+.

It is more of a game balance issue verses "real" situation. Also not all models removed are killed.

Yeah. However, are you allowed to wound a person without the weapon if you roll a one?

Who told you that it heats up gradually. Mon-keigh plasma weaponry is very unstable. Like others said sudden burst don't have to kill the person wielding the gun. Major injury to the hands and you're useless on the battle. I guess you could spit acid or some other crap but current "Gets hot!" rules are easy, fast and simple. No. Model wielding the plasma weapon is wounded.

Can you still make an armor save when it "Gets hot!" or is it an auto wound?

You just have to imagine it's an incompetent guardsman who hasn't been maintaining the weapon properly... and thus angered its machine spirit

nah, more like the imperium is satisfied with the ratio of power to wielder mortality, after all, they have a nearly endless supply of guys to tote said plasmagun, what matters if they die after 15 shots?

Rogue Trader rules for it were interesting as well.
You couldn't fire it for the first 2 turns of the game but after that you were a-okay, no gets hot or any of those shenanigans.
I could certainly imagine Eldar having plasma guns like that.

Hi all.
I can remember an old rule for plasma weaponry , (maybe from Epic!)
You have to wait one turn after firing to let the plasma weapon cool down.
Subsequent shots may cause the wepon to Get hot.(Not letting the plasma wapon cool down)
Eg.
Second shot ,explodes on a 1
Third subsequent shot, explodes 1or 2
fouth subsequent shot , explodes on a 1 to 3
Fith subsequent are you completley MAD!
So its up to the players to decide how much risk to take.
