Hey i just started painting blood angels and thought i was to wash it with Baal Red, I dont have a Baal Red wash yet but thought about buying it, but i read on the forums that Devlan Mud was good for a blood angels wash? so which do you think gives the better look?

Hey , I think that Devlan mud would be a much better wash to use on blood Ravens , However using a dark wash on a chapter which has bright red base colour would not be the best of ideas. Is there a particular reason why you want to use a wash on these models.

Please let me know why you want to use a wash on your blood angels , Then i can maby help you some more.

Hope this is helpful to you so far

Well i think that using a wash on a model gives it a less "toy" kindda look, and i used to paint Ultramarines where a Enchanted blue basecoat with Asurmen Blue wash did a great job.. so was just wondering if it would transfer to blood angels aswell, as mine look a little bit crappish..

Good video... unless I was painting characters or display pieces, I'd have drybrushed the 'tidying' Red Gore and the Blood Red before the Chaos Black and other spot detail paints for the sake of speed.

The way I've been painting a nice, rich red color (and I plan to use this for my Blood Angels) is:

black prime/base
Mechrite red base coat
blood red everywhere except where deep shadows/recesses
devlan mud wash
blood red as first highlight
baal red wash
blood red as second highlight
blazing orange as final highlight/edging
baal red wash

Coat d'Arms Chestnut wash on top of Blood Angel Red. This used to be the old GW chestnut wash before they redid their inks. Not a huge fan of the new inks as they come in much smaller quantities for the same price and many of them are way too subtle for what I need.

I've ordered from these guys and their service is top notch. Took less than a week to get the stuff from England.
