Hey guys. I've been giving a passing thought to my next army (as my Blood Angels will only need a couple of units to get them to a stage I'm happy with), and was heavily considering collecting Renegade Imperial Guard (with a CSM detachment for Apoc).

I've had a brief look through the Siege of Vraks books at the Renegade Army Lists, but I noticed that a lot of the wargear doesn't seem to have profiles. I'm guessing this means I also need to get Codex:IG? For example, the Vraks books say that Renegades can use Leman Russ, but no profile for them is listed in the army list section. While a lot of the IG tanks have their own sections, I'm not sure if the Vraks books were written before the latest Codex:IG (and therefore out of date).

Also, I was thinking of basing the Renegades on Nurgle, (Servants of Decay I believe)- what IA books would I need for this list? It's been a while since I got to look through them.

What books do people use for Renegade Nurgle Guard lists? Which IA books, and do I also need Codex:IG?

Cheers.

Just use an IG army, backed up with CSM and afew Daemon units. I see no reason why you just cant mix'n match what you need ^_^

Because unfortunatley (in some cases) thats against the rules. Codexs are internaly balanced but that all goes out the window when you mix and match. This makes the lists no official. IA lists are semi official (accepted by most) so you should not have any problems playing it.

I have not had any experience with this but I would expect that if it says use leman russ it means the one from the IG codex.

From the forgeworld site you can see the contents pages of the 3 books. The IA Seige of Vraks volume 3 looks to be the right 1 but I can't be sure.

I asked my GW Guy what I could use, he said Guard, w/ upto 25% CSM or Chaos Daemons. So I guess you need these 3 codexes.

I think neith means the official imperial armour lists from forge world.

Gathering the Informations.

"Servants of Decay" list is in Imperial Armour Volume Seven. So it looks like you'd need IA7 and at least the IG codex.

It depends on how much heresy you want, really.

I'd say you could get away with using a standard IG codex, and some very inventive "count's as" usage. You can go wild with Ogryns and Psyker Battle Squads as demons, as well as a Primaris Psyker. Also, using CSM minis as Storm Troopers could be cool, even if the statline doesn't fit perfectly. Since you want to go with nurgle, use some Banewolfs suitably modified to look as if they're spewing disease instead of chemical weapons.

Vraks3 has the list you want and was written to work with the new 5th ed codex.

Take a regular IG army as traitors. Straken represents the CSM demagogue leading them (he has the statline and rules for it!), Penal Legions as mutants, mount roughriders on daemonic steeds (steeds of slaanesh or juggernauts), field Psyker Battle Squads to represent rogue psyker heretics, etc.

The forgeworld lists are cool, but you might not get into many tournaments with them. If you care about that.

Nah, I'm not a tournament player- I mainly collect for the fluff/appearance of the armies (though I do still play semi-regularly). I've never really been interested in the Tournament scene to be honest. Thanks for the ideas though, since this'll probably be a Apoc army I can really go crazy.

I've ordered the basic Renegades Upgrade Set (and a box of Cadians to use the FW parts on), so once they're built I'll decide if I like the models enough to continue, or whether to try and slug through CSM again (as Alpha Legion, a warband of Death Guard or Thousand Sons, undecided yet).
