The RaW says you can.
The FAQ says you cannot.

Make of that what you will.

I see...well I guess that helps...the FAQ is different from errata right?

Yes. Errata are hard rules changes that replace errors in the printed codex.

FAQ's are House rules not worth the e-paper they are printed on and 90% of the time ignore clear RaW, make things even more confusing or just simply ignore a Frequently Asked Question (that is when they can be bothered to write them and not just steal other people work).

So yeah, you have to discuss before the game how you are playing it unfortunately.

I see...so was the Def rolla ruling an errata then?

That was one of the very few times Game Workshop have clarified unclear rules in an FAQ. Go Figure.
It was not an Errata, it was an FAQ, but since the RaW can be argued both ways equally, you are best off using it.

Most people and all TO's and YMDC all count FAQs as rules. I doubt anyone at you FLGS would let you do this if they have seen the FAQ!

gwar has this innate hatred of FAQ.

most players who've read them will follow FAQ, and they can blatently ignore RAW.

whats the point of RAW over RAI?

The FAQ says you cannot.
I'm going to ask for a clarification on this, since I cannot find it in the FAQ and the BRB seems to contradict this point of view, which in turn seems to be contradicted by the most recent errata.

Page 21 of the Necron codex states that units exiting from the portal count as having disembarked from a vehicle.

Page 67 of the BRB gives us two options when a unit diembarks.
A. If the vehicle has moved including pivoting the uint may disembark but cannot move further and cannot assault but they can shoot counting as if they had moved.
B. If the vehicle has not moved and did not pivot then the unit may disembark, move, shoot(counting as having moved) and assault as normal.

The Necron FAQ in the monolith section is conflicting on this in the first sentance it states that the unit cannot move if the monolith or the unit has moved prior to the teleport. In the second sentance it merely states that the unit cannot move if it moved prior to the teleport. Nothing is said of a restriction to assaulting beyound that contained in the BRB.

The most recent errata issued by GW further mystifies this when it states that units with fleet may not assault after disembarking from a vehicle.

Based on these if there is a restriction on assaulting after disembarking it would come from the poorly worded errata and not from anything in the Necron codex, FAQ or the BRB.

I know this is not a real factor here but at all the local GW stores in my area they follow the BRB on the issue of assaulting after disembarking.

Probably because most people now equate the bit about "if either has moved" as treating the Monolith as a moving vehicle. That's reinforced by the phrasing in the INAT FAQ NEC.21E.02 "(as they count as having disembarked from a moving vehicle)". If it's counted as a moving vehicle now, then the main rulebook prohibition against assaulting froma moving vehicle (non-opentopped, non-assault ramp) applies.

as stated above, much to the chagrin of gwar, most players WILL follow the faq's and not allow you to. despite their 5th edition disclaimer that the faq's are houserules, most gamers (and tournies) treat them as clarifications/errata/rules changes just like they officially were for the previous two editions before the ridiculous disclaimer existed.

Agreed. Which is probably why so many people anxiously await FAQs and bemoan GW's laxity in producing them.

I do not have a hatred of FAQ, I have a Hatred of GW FAQs that are poorly written, Ignore the RaW when it is not needed and their wishy washy attitude to them.

Believe it or not, I actually agree with that statement. I know we disagree (hugely) regarding using the FAQs, but GWs poor writing across the board drives me up the wall.
