Hi everybody. I'm trying to decide between two semi-mech IG lists I've been working on, and I need your help! I think the question mostly comes down to 'plasma-vets or melta-vets?', or in other words 'do I have enough anti-tank without melta-vets?'

LIST ONE

HQ
CCS - Regimental Standard, Autocannon - 75

TROOPS
PCS - Flamer - 35
Infantry Squad - Autocannon - 60
Infantry Squad - Autocannon - 60
Veteran Squad - 3 Plasma Guns - 115
Veteran Squad - 3 Plasma Guns - 115

FAST ATTACK
Hellhound - 130
Vendetta - 130
Vendetta - 130

HEAVY SUPPORT
Leman Russ - 150

LIST TWO

HQ
CCS - Regimental Standard, Autocannon - 75

TROOPS
PCS - Flamer - 35
Infantry Squad - Autocannon, Grenade Launcher - 65
Infantry Squad - Autocannon, Grenade Launcher - 65
Veteran Squad - 3 Meltaguns - 100
Veteran Squad - 3 Meltaguns - 100

FAST ATTACK
Vendetta - 130
Vendetta - 130

HEAVY SUPPORT
Leman Russ - 150
Leman Russ - 150

P.S. The reason the lists are only 1000 points is so I have an easy target to aim for re: buying and painting models. My intention is then to expand to 1500/1850/whatever, probably by adding more infantry, i.e. it'll lean towards gunline over mech in the long run.

I can see both working but the glaring problem I have is that the CCS and PCS aren't maxed out for weapons. I'd take the first list and maybe swap one vet to melta to get some points and then maybe get another flamer on the PCS and GL's on the AC squads. Or whatever you like but YMMV with plasma vets...mine kinda melt in 1-2 turns.

Hope that helped

I know what you mean about not having kitted out the command squads, but I don't see the point in giving the PCS melta without a transport.

Pick 2 - meltaguns can still kill light vehicles and 2+ save troops, whereas plasmaguns are helpless against AV13-14.

Eldar Corsairs: 4000 pts
Imperial Guard: 4000 pts

Corregidor 700 pts
Acontecimento 400 pts

OK, so if I went for list 2, the expanded version would look something like this:

1500pt LIST TWO

HQ
CCS - Regimental Standard, 4 Meltaguns, Chimera w. hull Heavy Flamer - 160

TROOPS
PCS - 4 Flamers, Chimera w. hull Heavy Flamer - 105
Infantry Squad - Autocannon, Grenade Launcher - 65
Infantry Squad - Autocannon, Grenade Launcher - 65
Infantry Squad - Autocannon, Grenade Launcher - 65
Infantry Squad - Autocannon, Grenade Launcher - 65
Infantry Squad - Autocannon, Grenade Launcher - 65
Veteran Squad - 3 Meltaguns - 100
Veteran Squad - 3 Meltaguns - 100

FAST ATTACK
Vendetta - 130
Vendetta - 130

HEAVY SUPPORT
Leman Russ - 150
Leman Russ - 150
Leman Russ - 150

What do you think? Maybe I should have a third Vendetta or a Valkyrie rather than a third Russ and put the CCS in it? Or maybe Manticores rather than Russes throughout?

I have acouple of questions.

1) What is your plan with the Infantry squads? are you going to blob them?
2) what is the Regimental standard doing? if your CCS is zooming around tank hunting it not helping anyone.

You're right about the standard - I don't think I can even legally take it if all the guardsmen have special weapons anyway, so that's out.

In terms of blobbing, I'm not really sure. What's the consensus on blobbing? I'm not particularly convinced it's all that useful.

Before I start let me say apologies if this is wrong but I'm at work so don't have my codex on me, however I'm not sure if that's true actually. The med Kit, vox and Standard say something like "one veteran may take a" where as special weapons say something like "one veteran may replace his lasgun with" so in theory you can have a standard bearer with a Plasma gun. I always assumed the reason people didn't do this is because it putting a lot of points on a squishy model.

Personally I like blobbing, I play mainly 500 games so don't get to do it much but I think it add survivability, however it king of depends on what you want them to do.

Not exactly. The med kit, vox and standard do say "one veteran" followed by "one other veteran" for the other two, but the special weapons listed beneath them say "Any remaining veterans that have not been upgraded with one of the options above." The unit upgrades are carefully written to make it impossible to do what you describe.

Damn, sorry my bad. Standard bearer can still have a lasgun though right?

Yeah, or a laspistol. The standard, medipack, and vox don't replace any weapons.
