I'm here looking at the stack of yet unpainted orks on my table and thinking, that's a lot of orks.
Then it occurred to me that it's nothing compared to most collections.
Then I realized there are a lot of ork players in my city.
Most having hundreds of boyz.
And even non-ork players may have some orks.
Then I realized there a lot of cities.
And some orks stuffed in attics or in storage. Some even on sprues.
And that's just here in the U.S.
And this has been going on for over 10 years.
Anyone privy to just how many orks GW has produced over the span of the games?
Or should I just give in to the 'they multiply by spore' line?
25-30 years since GW founded maybe. I think the OP meant how many (X)illions of models GW has produced since it started 40k I believe. Around 91? so that's alot of figures to make.
You can't really go by sales either for various reasons (red shirts, resales, losses, etc) and my google-fu must be weak because I couldn't even find the number of models they produce in ONE year. My hope was to basically guesstimate all models divided by army # then multiply by year. So sad, so sad

The only way you are ever likely to get an accurate answer would be to email GW directly. However, it is doubtful that even with incredibly accurate record keeping they would have anything more than a "ball park" figure. My guess is that it is up there in the hundreds of thousands.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.
Well, you might be able to approach the number by figuring out how many Ork Players there are and assuming that each Ork Player averages around 100 Orks (don't you think?) I think the vast majority of Ork Players are dabblers with a tiny collection which is why I am providing such a low estimate.
How many Ork Players are there? Well, let's see, if one wants a rough idea, take a look at how many signed up for the Online Medusa V campaign. Ahhhh... can't find this number.
Who says that the increased traffic on dakka would lead to a reduction in the quality of threads and posts.
LIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ I tells ya!!
well, really it depends, because the orks are not really orks until you glue em....unless you make it so that the boxes count as a number... but like everyone says, A LOT
You're not playing the game like I play it...why aren't you playing the game like I play it?! O_O
To get a true answer to this very important question we need to go about it logically.
If we say the average Ork army that gets used has 100 Ork figures (this takes into account small armies, vehicle based armies and large armies) and then the average collection that people have of unused Ork figures is 50 (this takes into account those who bought a box then gave up and those who bought a whole army then gave up), all we need to do is find out how many people have used armies and how many have unused armies and multiply them by the appropriate figure.
Right, will all those with used Ork armies please put your hand up so I can count you... One, two, three...

Way of pal!
The correct number is-
510,487,592,327,871,236,667
Or-
Five hundred and ten pentillion, four hundred and eighty-seven quadrillion, five hundred and ninety-two trillion, three hundred and twenty-seven billion, eight hundred and seventy-one million, two hundred and thirty-six thousand, six hundred and sixty-seven.
That was four minutes of my life I will never get back.
