Hi all,

I am looking to paint up a kor'ssaro khan conversion to Imperial Fists commander and am hoping to get some advice/tips from you helpful folks to take my painting to "the next level"!!

i haven't previously painted battle damage on any of my minis but have seen some pretty good effects achieved using various methods, one of which is the really good sponge battle damage tutorial on this site, but have given others a try as well. Currently i paint my fists in a sunburst yellow based scheme (with a Sepia glaze applied to dull the armour down when finished) and wondered based on that what to colour to apply the chips to the armour - i asked at my local GW store and was recommended Charadon Granite, but i have seen a lot of tutorials where the basecoat of the armour is used (which in my mind makes more sense!), however, the basecoat/recess colour i use for the armour is Iyanden Darksun with Devlan mud wash - would i be best to use some kind of very dark yellow/brown to paint the chips with??

also, i was hoping someone here might be able to help with another query i have - how to paint relic blades. I was thinking on the Khan model something along the lines of either a golden sword or silver with a sort of gold motif along the blade and saw the rather jazzy Marneus Calgar Land Raider on page 123 of the space marine codex, with the lascannons and storm bolter which have gold design painted on. I have looked for tutorials/examples on the web, but can't find anything other than power weapon painting tutorials and whilst they do look good, i'm not sure they would really work on him (or with my lack of painting skills!! ) - does anyone know of a tutorial for painting relic blades, or possibly offer any advice/pics of differently painted swords which may be suitable??

cheers!

Mike.
