I'm not sure if it should go here but
I have a salamanders army mostly painted and i've had a flick through the BA codex
and I perfer their codex but salamanders colors
so my question to you is
Can I have an army painted to salamanders but using Ba codex as they have pretty much the same gear?

Expect to run into the opponent that will give you grief, especially if you used Saly chapter markings. You should be fine if your opponent knows what you're doing and you have your models wysiwyg. Personally, if I saw a bunch of Ultramarines on the table and a BA codex in the guy's hand, I'd just roll my eyes.

One big reason people go DYI is to avoid stuff like this. Like a certain codex? Just play it.

Yes, just yes.
Eyes will roll, but I think it's just something people will expect these days, esp. if GW is all up about: have fun/do whatever you want/GW FAQ's are just our own house rules/blah/blah...

well the reasons i want to keep them sallys
1)id have to repaint almost all of my space marines(about 60 marines 2 dreads 1 rhino 1 drop pod 5 bikes 1 land speeder and a bit more)
2) I perfer salamanders colours

Well what i could do is leave off sally markings and put blood angels on and say its a secondary chapter(I think thats what there called??)
Or put sallty symbols on one side blood andels on the other

Why do you want to use the Blood Angels codex for your Salamanders anyway?
