This is my first post here, so hello everyone!

Yesterday I painted my Lord with the intention of painting him to the best of my ability. I think he went very well (I'm particularly proud of the cloak); here are the results:





Basically I'm just looking for general advice and comments, how can I get better and what glaring mistakes have I made?

I like it. Could I ask for a close up of the axe detail? I like your use of silvers as well as gold. It breaks the red up nicely. Good job!

Welcome to dakka! I would reccomend using a brighter red for highlights instead of the pink that you have gone with. Also, I think you put highlights where a shade should have been.Other than that, good job!

I agree about the red highlights. I've heard red is a notoriously difficult color to paint. Shade it with white+red, you get a pinkish tone. Shade it with red-orange and it looks too orange.

Actually I've been worried about my red highlights for a while now, because it doesn't tend to make armies a bit pink, but due to my lack of money I've not gone out and bought any new paint for the job, sticking with the old white-red mix.

The pinkness has sort of ingrained itself into my 4000 point army by now :S

Don't worry about it then, man. Your model looks great, and I'm sure the entire army looks fantastic on the field.
