So, now that I've put my dwarfs up on their shelf to gather dust and started putting my empire army together, I have run into some things (har har) that I never did before.
Specifically, I'm confused about impact hits. Are they allocated like shooting (i.e. can I decide I want them all to go on his general in that blood knight death star? Or can he decide?).
Here's a situation that happened yesterday:
Khorne herald on a chariot. His chariot gives him a 3+ armor save, and he was wearing the Armor of Khorne, which also gives him a 3+ armor save. Now if you combine these, it's a -2+ armor save, but that seems a bit silly. We ended up randomizing the hits between the chariot and the herald, which resulted in a smashed chariot and a totally untouched herald who then went poof from combat res. Is this correct? Or is a chariot a single model?
Help a n00b out.

No problem:
BRB, p 63:
"Impact hits against a unit of troops are distributed like shooting."
When shooting a chariot, 1-5 is chariot, 6 is character (BRB p 64).
Also, he's doing his armor save wrong. Also from page 64: "...the character either gains a +2 armor save bonus for riding the chariot or can use the armor save value of the chariot, whichever is the best".
Hope that helps.

Ah. So he should have had a 1+ save on his guy, but I didn't wound the guy anyway so it didn't matter.
Thank you kindly.
[EDIT] and thank you kindly for being the reason I don't need to buy a BRB (I'm waiting for the 8th ed one)

Actually impact hits only hit the mount the model is riding on, when the mount is monstrous or chariot*, so in this case you couldnt cause impact hits on the model anyway.
*the exception is the stegadon, as it states that ALL shooting is distributed as X - this overrides impact hits general rules.
This rule is handy as I ran a steg into a Carnosaur, killing the 'saur through impact hits along. I then was able to clobber the Old Blood, win combat and run him down
