Subject: Assault Terminator Conversion Pack... as if!

While on my quest to convert my AoBR terminators into assault terminators, I noticed the games workshop website had a pack of five thunder hammers and shields for only about 10$. "Perfect!" I thought, naively unaware of how GW likes get as much money from their customers as possible. Boy, was I in for a surprise. Here are all the problems with this 'conversion pack':
1. Everything's metal. Yeah, you can tell by looking at the pictures, but still.
2. The hammers are left-handed. This is strange, and I'm not sure why they decided to do this.
3. The arms aren't terminator arms. I'm pretty sure they're meant to be fitted with normal space marines, admittedly it's only called a 'Thunder Hammer Conversion Pack', but I assumed it was for assault terminators.
4. The shoulder pads aren't even terminator shoulder pads! They look really out-of-place on a terminator.
5. It's all metal, it's all crappy-looking.
So yeah, thanks Games-Workshop. Thanks a lot.

They are actually Terminator weapons... for LAST editions Metal Terminators. Using them with the current crop of plastic Termies DOES make em look lousy.

I just took a look at them, and they are for normal space marines. That could be useful for my DA veteran squad actually....

-Any terrain containing Sly Marbo is dangerous terrain.
-Sly Marbo once played an objective mission just to see what it was like to not meet every victory condition on his own.
-Sly Marbo bought a third edition rulebook just to play meat grinder as the attacker.
-Marbo doesn't need an Eldar farseer as an ally; his enemies are already doomed
-Sly Marbo was originally armed with a power weapon, but he dropped it while assaulting a space marine command squad just so his enemies could feel pain
-Sly Marbo still attacks the front armor value in assault, for pity's sake. |

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do |

You made the same mistake I did when I first started collecting, BobtheChainSaw.
This is for power armored marines. I also bought them for my Assault on Black Reach terminators. As you now know, they do not look good on a terminator frame. I cut one of the hammers off the PA arm, drilled out a powerfist, and stuck in the hammer, but it looks kind of funny.
Ah well, live and learn.
I got the rest of my terminator hammers at bit sites on ebay. I used those PA hammers on Sergeants and a couple of Black Templar IC's. I slapped one of the shields on my Black Templar Land Raider Crusader. Nice bling, that!
Now that you're hand has been bitten like mine was, come to sites like this one and ask about a particular bit if you aren't sure. I know I got much more cautious before making purchases after this episode.
Best of luck!

Thanks. What SM units can accept thunder hammers, by the way? I'm going to have to use at least one after spending money on the stuff.

I read your post, but can't seem to understand what GW did wrong.
Did the customer service guy tell you they were made for Terminators?
Was this description not there prior to your purchase?
"This pack contains 15 METAL components, including..."
Own the mistake like you own the bits...

Five sets of hammer + shield. 6€
http://www.maxmini.eu/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=12&products_id=46
And if you want the luxury version, these hammers look a lot better. 10 of these for 6€. You can buy the above shields as they are, 10 for 6€. Or you can go crazy with bitsbox and greenstuff moulding, should be easier on shields.

Black Templars still have the armory for certain characters, so I can give one to a Chaplain, Marshal, Techmarine, HQ sergeant (after giving him terminator honors), and that's about it, i think.
Crimson Cobra's list above sounds good for standard marines.
Also, can't tactical squad sergeants take a thunder hammer? I don't play standard marines that often. Only once ever, actually.
