Alright, where to start? A few months ago, I decided to consult a good friend of mine who plays 40K almost as much as I do to help me choose my next army. I've had experience with, firstly, Space Wolves, then Daemon Hunters, subsequently Tau, then Dark Eldar, Guard, and Witch Hunters. I wanted something new, and something competitive. I would have stayed with Dark Eldar, had it not been for their ancient codex and the promise of a paint-scheme I am not terribly fond of painting. 'Orks', my friend said, 'they fit your play-style and are highly competitive.'

I asked him to send me the builds which he had on hand which had been tried and tested and are suitably 'killy'. Since I am a huge fan of a MEQ army and love the look of yellow Ork vehicles painted right, I decided on a mobile, deadly force of Badmoons. From there, through a bit of adaptation and improvisation and playtesting, we arrived at this list (and further expansions for different points levels):

Ghazghkull 225
Mek, KFF 85
15 Burnas 225
Nob Biker Unit:
Nob, Bike, Painboy, Cybork 80
Nob, Bike, PK, Cybork, Waagh! Banner 90
Nob, Bike, PK, Shoota/Skorcha, Cybork 80
Nob, Bike, Cybork 50
Nob, Bike, Shoota/Skorcha, Cybork 55
Stikkbombs 5
17 Boyz, Nob, PK 139
11 Boyz, Nob, PK, Trukk, Red, Plank, Ram 151
11 Boyz, Nob, PK, Trukk, Red, Plank, Ram 151
11 Boyz, Nob, PK, Trukk, Red, Plank, Ram 151
Battlewagon, Red, Plank, Klaw, Big Shoota, Rolla 130
Battlewagon, Red, Plank, Klaw, Big Shoota, Rolla 130

Total: 1,750

Pulling the built and sprued Orks from the 5 Assault on Black Reach sets I had purchased and split over the years, I went to work.

So, skipping some steps of the building process (which I'll post in later entries) I delved right into painting one of my converted Trukks: a converted Rhino tank. The process was pretty simple, actually, and let me know if you like the results. Here are the pics of that Trukk, WIP (work in progress):

Sounds good!

I'm assuming Ghazghkull + the 17 Boyz go in one Battlewagon and the Mek + the 15 Burnas in the other?

If you are using the AoBR Orks, I'd really recommend taking the time to switch weapons, heads and poses a little bit to mix them up. They all look a bit similar straight out the box imo! :(

Anyway, good luck!

Ghaz goes with burnas and mek with boyz, just to put 1 klaw per plank

And the paint goes on...

Working for the past couple of days, I have been continuing to paint the Trukk and the Boyz squad/mob to accompany it. First off, here's the Trukk, alsmost done:

And here are the boyz who will be riding that trukk, again, almost done (maybe 75-80% complete)

Here's a shot of both of them together

Next, once both are complete, I'll be working on the first battle wagon, with scratch-built deff rolla

Nice, though you could have done the deffrolla conversion a bit better, now it's just 2 pipes with a killybit on the ends, I don't see any connections between them??

Trukk's looking great, love how the boyz are shaping up too.
