So I've never been interested in a cheese army. It's not how I play and I don't like the idea of it. My friend and I are going to start playing in tournaments and neither one of us know how to fight a cheese army. We decided we are both going to make a full on hardcore list that neither of us would usually use and turn it against the other to learn how to fight them. I know that every army is going to be different and there are many different strong lists out there, but we just want to try out against a list that is so overpowered it might give you a haha.

He has been playing for many years and knows what a strong cheese CSM army is and is already working on making it.

I on the other hand have only been playing for a few months and while I am new, I am a fairly good player already. I have not looked into making the strongest for the cheapest kinda thing because that isn't my style.

So I ask you Dakka Dakka, what is are considered the cheese units of the SW's?
I have a bit over 5000 points of guys so I can take about anything you suggest (minus TWC cause I suck at conversions so am just waiting for them to be released)

JotWW is considered pretty broken.

Personally, after all the time I've spent trolling the Army Lists forums the past two days, I think LF spam could be big.

Also, a Wolf Priest, Ragnar Blackmane, a bunch of BC cruisin around in a Land Raider could be devastating.

LF spam with Rune priests giving them cover if they need it is fairly common. Lots of razorbacks for move and fire lascannons as well.

Alternative is drop pod logan WG spam - the amount of combi melta nastiness you can have is insane.

Here is a list I came up with for a 1500 point game. Like some others I just want to see what a low model count Space Wolf Army would do. For another 500 points I can add 2 Land Raiders.

Bjorn the Fell-Handed [Assault Cannon]
Logan Grimnar, The Great Wolf
Logan’s Wolf Guard
-Arjac Rockfist, The Anvil of Fenris
-Wolf Guard [Terminator Armor, Thunder Hammer, Storm Shield]
-Wolf Guard [Terminator Armor, Storm Bolter, Frost Axe, Melta-Bombs]
-Wolf Guard [Terminator Armor, Frost Axe Storm Shield, Melta Bombs]
-Wolf Guard [Terminator Armor, Assault Cannon, Chain Fist]

Njal Stormcaller, Lord of Tempests [Runic Terminator Amour]
-Wolf Guard x4 [Paired Wolf Claws]
-Wolf Guard [Heavy Flamer, Chain Fist]

Spend those 7 points on whatever. Or don't spend them at all. It doesn't really matter, lol.

Long Fangs don't deploy in their Razorback, btw. Priest rides either in the Fang Razor or a Ghunter squad.

And out of CSM, you opponent's list will look like this:
DP, Wings, Lash
DP, Wings, Lash
2x7 PM, 2 Melta, Champ, PF, Rhino
1x7 Zerk, PF, Rhino
3x2 Oblits

if it's actually a good "cheese" list.

Logan Grimnar is what you're thinking of. He allows you to take Wolf Guard as troops (Which can be put in Terminator armor). Since Logan himself is also in Terminator armor IIRC, the entire army can utilize a 2+/5+ save.

Granted...this is a very low model count army, as the cheapest model you buy is 33 points for a baseline Storm Bolter/CCW Wolf Guard Terminator. Hence, massed fire or AP1/2 weaponry will usually take it down pretty quick.

If you are so hung up on 'cheese', you probably don't belong at a tournament.

Q: How many of a specific demographic group are required to carry out a simple task?
A: An arbitrary number. One to carry out the task in question, and the remainder to act in a manner stereotypical of the group.

I think what Fearspect was saying is that if you do't think people should use "cheese" lists, you have unrealistic tourney-going expectations.

I never said they shouldn't use them, I just don't use them myself, but I want to know how to fight them. Does that make sense?

Couple other cheesy things you can do with the sons of russ

Thunderwolf Cav.
Wolf lord on Thunderwolf
Iron priest on thunderwolf+4 Cyberwolves

You can equip the Thunder wolf Cav differently, take about 4, 1 with Thunderhammer or PFist, one with Melta bomb, one with wolfen, one normal joe, give them all stormshields. What you have now in that 4 man unit is 3+ invuls, 5 T 5S on the normal and wolfen, all rending, they get 5 attacks on the charge, wolfen gets D6+1 + charge bonus, and the TH/PF is str 10

Throw the wolf lord with them, with a Pfist/th SS, Wolf Tooth neck, and other fun (saga of bear, or warrior depends) and you have a unit that can move 6, run up to 6, and assualt 12. They can't go up levels in ruins, but for everything else they just EAT it.

as for the iron priest, he is about the same, with a large number of S10 attacks, and a servo arm giving a str 8 attack, plus his wolves, for like 120ish points. also he can fix dreadnaughts or rhinos if they get Immobilized or Weapon destroyed on ya. Thats not shabby

my last Game list was pretty nasty

and yes the two Power armour wolfgaurd were going to be pack leaders to the Grey hunters

Thats the best cheese list on here but take the las/plasma's and make them all Twin-linked assault cannons (assault cannons have a higher rate of killing vechs as long as the enemy is outside of 12") and all you do is stay in your razorbacks and run around firing a slowed amount of s6 ap4 rending shots. although i would replace the LF's mainly cause of the high amount of blasts and now with the new baal's and there s6 ap3 flamer that would kill them all. Plus you want to be mobile works better imo as you can start in a table corner as deployment and missions are random now. But if you take LF's i would put them in a rhino and just fire 2 ML shot's out the hatches. This is the cheese list i was thinking about using although i would get a comp rating of maybe 2 out of 20 hahaha.

HQ: 210
Rune Priest: 110
CotS
(Living Lighting, Storm Caller)
(With LF pack 1)

Rune Priest: 100
(Living Lighting, Storm Caller)
(With LF pack 2)

Elites: 387
3 Wolf Guard: 129
Razorback (Assualt cannon)

3 Wolf Guard: 129
Razorback (Assualt cannon)

3 Wolf Guard: 129
Razorback (Assualt cannon)

Troops: 600
5 Grey Hunters: 150
Flamer, Razorback (Assualt Cannon)

5 Grey Hunters: 150
Flamer, Razorback (Assualt Cannon)

5 Grey Hunters: 150
Flamer, Razorback (Assualt Cannon)

5 Grey Hunters: 150
Flamer, Razorback (Assualt Cannon)

Hvy: 300
3 Long Fangs: 100
Rhino, 2 ML's, 1 Sgt

3 Long Fangs: 100
Rhino, 2 ML's, 1 Sgt

3 Long Fangs: 100
Rhino, 2 ML's, 1 Sgt

Total: 1497

And with this list you keep SC up and keep all your guys in their transports. you have 7 Assualt cannons, and 6 ML's. The SC can be cast and doesnt use a hatch so all unit's (including vechs within 6 inches get a 5+ cover save) all you have to do is avoid combat and basically play like a slower eldar force of doom. Jotww is not broken as you have to past a Initiative test which is easy inless your a fex, plus most armies are mech so its almost un-usable at a range. At 1500 this is almost as cheesy as you can get and if you bring this to a tourney (Which i know you arent) your almost certain to get below a 5 for comp score.
