A few (probably stupid) questions on a Razorback.
First of all, could I take two Razorbacks for one Tactical Squad, if I were to split them into Combat Squads?
Secondly, is there anyway I could take a Razorback without it holding a unit?
Finally, what is the best weapon to put on Razorback versus horde armies (especially orks)?

Thanks mates!

1) No
2) Only by buying for a unit then just putting them on foot.
3) Heavy Bolters

Q: How many of a specific demographic group are required to carry out a simple task?
A: An arbitrary number. One to carry out the task in question, and the remainder to act in a manner stereotypical of the group.

1) No, it's one razorback per squad, you can however combat squads so that you can have one mobile and one firebase.

2) If you do buy a razorback, you have to buy it for the squad, but you do not have to have the squad in it, it can drive around solo all you want and even pick up other sqauds (not in terminator armor or jump infantry).

3)For almost any purpose, I would recomend the Twin-Linked Assault Cannon. Good again hords, and beats out Twin-Linked lascannon against AV 14 by a slight margin. If you want to keep cost down, Heavy flamers can work wonders against hords, but you sacrifice a little range.

Thanks.
I'll probably make it a house rule that you are allowed to use DTs without attaching them to troops, but I understand that isn't proper gaming rules.

I'll go with the AC for sure, because I must say, it was either the AC or the HF, but the AC sounds great!

Nope only one per squad, it kinda sucks. I am at work but I am pretty sure by the wording if the squad is over 5 models you cannot even buy one.

You do not have to deploy the unit in the razorback to start so buy it for your command or heavy weapons squad.

Heavy bolters are great vrs orks, I don't have a codex here to see the other options. But 3 shots at a reroll to hit wounding on 3's and penning most armor sould work for you.

Problem with the AC is comparably high cost when you look at the heavy bolter. It makes your AV11 vehicle a fatter target for enemy AT, too. I like the normal Heavy Bolters for some cheap anti-infantry work.

1. No, and agree w/ Omega_Warlord.
2. Yes, but I believe it must start w/ that unit though.
3. TL Assualt Cannon.

It is a high cost, but if you need cheap, I would suddgest a simple rino. Using the storm bolter and firing from the fire points will give you more hits then the heavy bolter for cheaper. It is less range however.

What FOC slot will it take up? cause as they are only ever taken with troops in the codex how can you add them without a troop choice.

What will stop me from playing your house rules and roll on with 10 razorbacks considering that its only 450 points taking no FOC's?

you may only take them as dedicated transports for troops or other codex entries that can take them. they are not on the FOC chart as dedicated transports.

A razorback must be bought for a squad but is entirely a separate unit. It does not have to start with anything. The only restriction is that it may not have a squad other than that embarked at deployment.

It is only a separate unit once it has deployed, until it hits the table the razorback and the squad it is a dedicated transport for, is a single unit.

That is incorrect, entirely so. At no point are they a single *unit*, they are however a single *choice*

Razorbacks are a DT. Unless the codex states it the unit does not have to be deployed with the DT. Again unless stated otherwise in the codex anybody can hop in the transport AFTER deployment. So as long as the meet the restrictions of the transport you can even plan to have a different squad jump in the transport first turn or just mess with your opponent by dropping an empty drop pod with a deathwind missile launcher in it.

The greater good needs some moo.

no a 10 man squad can still buy one.

the only model number restriction for transports now is to purchase a drop pod the squad must be 10 models.

it was that way in the old codex BTW

Please quote a page reference to back this up.

SM codex P135 "These vehicles do use up any Force Organisation Chart selections, but otherwise function as seperate units."

If there is some further restriction then I'd like to hear it.

Read the rulebook, p 67 lower right hand corner. the square with the heading "Dedicated Transports" "The only limitation of a dedicated transport is that it when it is deployed it can only carry the unit it was selected with (plus any independent characters). It can then transport any friendly infantry unit, [...]"

So it's quite fine to start a dedicated transport empty or carrying the unit it was taken with.
