I've only played some smaller games with my marines and was thinking of using Shrike at the time...so they wern't exactly comparable to this playstyle. Will this work? Any tips or tricks?

I'm open to major modification, so just lemme have it.

Well if you want to get the most out of Pedro I would take at least another sternguard squad if not two more and lose the dreads

Kantor is my HQ of choice. However, you're doing him an injustice by taking a single 6 man Sternguard Squad. I would take another squad of 5, and mount it in a Razorback, as well as mounting the current Sternguard Squad in a Razorback, and giving both of them some weapon upgrades. I would also lose the Ironclad and the scouts/LSS and invest in some Predators, lascannons sponsons, AC turret configuration. This will concentrate your force into a mechanized unit, and add some AV firepower that you are lacking.

Mixing pods and Rhinos usually ends up getting to be too much to handle. Focus on one or the other.

I'd pretty much agree with Endova on all points. You can also drop a Tactical if you wanted to, this would free up some more points for Land Speeders, or something a bit more offensive.
