Hi all. As the more astute among you may have realized from the title, i'm planning a diorama. I have a few questions for those of you more experienced than me. I'm thinking of doing a scene featuring a valkyrie inside a hangar, and i want it to look like it's being re-fitted for another run. I have found some 1/48 scale model kits with ammo carts and bombs, rockets etc. My main quandry is, will GW accept a diorama featuring such things, and is 1/48 the right scale?

Go with what works best for the figre; if that means 1/48 or 1/35 you be the judge. As for GW, IMHO if you slather enought GW bits over the stuff to obscure its origins to where it is not obviously a WWII era jeep or plane cart then you are probably okay. The other thing is to ensure that the bulk of the diorama is GW parts.

Well that shouldn't be a problem- just a healthy layer of skulls and imperial eagles on everything and who's to know! It's mainly featuring a valkyrie, sentinel, cadians and a stray lictor, so it'll just be small detail bits that are non-GW. Now to await the cash that's funding this affair!

Yeah they will be fine with that, as long as the whole thing fits in with the 40k ethos so to speak

This sounds pretty cool btw.. Ill be keeping my eye on this to see what it looks like!

(Ps, I always wanted to do a diorama of a valk too. Picture this, bullet hole in the canopy, blood spray on the glass and pilot slumped over, co pilot looking paniced, Valkyrie in a spin, and maybe some guard or storm troops are fast roping out of it and getting flung about.)

As I understand their legal bumf, it would be okay as long as you did not make any claims for it being GW if you try to sell it

Also it isn't a problem unless being entered into a GW competition/event

Thanks for the input guys. Chibi, regarding that link, I must be honest: tl;dr. Not properly anyway. I don't plan to sell it as a GW product, I don't really plan to sell it at all. The one problem I was forseeing is if I want to put it in for GW official competitions and events as you mentioned, and I couldn't find a bit specifically referring to that

Hi Million

As the centre piece is GW and presumably the hanger scratched, then it is not likely to be an issue.
Best bet would be to contact GW as there doesn't seem to be anything specifically related in the rules.

Not sure how big a valk is.
Have a 1/72 rearming set so can sort of guage the size of a bomb trolley in 1/48. Will get back to you on that and give dimensions if it helps.
Not aware of similar sets in 1/32 but it will probably start getting expensive in that scale if you can find one. Would have tought it fairly easy to scratch the trolley if you can source the wheels.

I love the idea btw good luck with it

Well, there's been a bit of progress.
Chibi's been kind enough to post me some aircraft armaments to add to this dio, I've ordered the sentinel and the valk with what money I could scrape together. I can't wait to get started!

I'm slightly nervous of describing what i'm going to do in case someone rips it off... is that mad?
